I suspect that removing the half-races as distinct entities is the pet cause of someone at WotC. So I would be very surprised if the new AL rules are written in a way that allows using the half-races from the 2014 phb.

300 people does seem like a lot for making a VTT, even if it's a super fancy 3D one. The only way it makes sense to me is if most of them are 3d modelers and animators, and the VTT will launch with a huge amount of high-quality monsters and environments.

The choice between Shield etc. and other reactions is interesting, since they do different things. The choice between Blade Ward and Shield? Not so much, they both do the same thing, you're just guessing if it's worth it to spend a spell slot for potentially better results.
