I believe minions do what they do well. I love using minions in the right circumstance, but it doesn't fix the problems mentioned earlier. We should be able to take encounters from the MM without having to substitute minions for all the 'normal' monsters.

That's the first problem. Characters without magic items die. The 3.5 DMG stated that PCs should have access to the items they desire within reason. 4e changes it so that it's not a hurdle, but it's still expensive.

Let's be fair: The people being punished here are the DMs and Players of the system, not the publishers. They will continue to write for whoever they can, but the end user is the one who loses out on content.

I will be surprised if anyone makes content for 4e ever. This is a sad day.

If you want a good book to help you the Toolbox from AEG is a great book for everyone. Tables upon tables of random stuff to roll on. It's 3.5, but it's flavor is good for all editions.

You're missing out. You can't judge it based on what you hear let alone just reading the books. You need to actually play it.
