3.5 was a new edition. 4e Essentials was not. The 2024 revised Core books lie somewhere in the middle. I say it's on the "no" side, but to each their own.

Thanks for the in depth review. As for the edition debate ... Compared to the switch from 3.0 to 3.5, this feels much smaller; classes have been rebalanced, but we don't have entire skills gone, the core mechanics and math remain the same. Though I'll confess I didn't go through that change...

Readability has become a major issue for me, and I'm tired of dense tomes and walls of text. Everything I've seen with both art and layout has been a major improvement in that respect. Plus it looks like a fun book to just sit and read.

RE: Summer vs Winter Olympics. For purely shallow "check out the hot athletes in next to nothing", I do like Summer games. For fun sports and nationalistic fervor (Go Canada) ... I tend to lean Winter Games.

1. Shooting and Sailboats. While I get that it's an impressive skill and I'm amused at the memes over some of the athletes ... at least the archers have to put their own muscle into firing their shots. As for the Sailboats ... again, it's an impressive skill, and at least this year they've cut...

:mad: ... I mean, how is my Dragon Sorcerer supposed to show off their heritage by changing into a mighty dragon? This has annoyed me since 2014. Back to writing up my Wyrmform homebrew spell.

Disappointed that Arcane Eruption didn't get into the PHB, was hoping for some more Sorcerer-only spells in general. I'm still mulling over the changes to spellcasting. I like Polymorph and similar spells giving Temp HP instead of a new HP pool.

Do Sorcerers get Shapechange on their spell list?

It's interesting comparing this to the new statblocks that were previewed. I do love simple level based rules and I like simple ways to give monsters a range of levels, in principle I'm in favor of this approach. This is something I'd like more of so I can run it and do a comparison.

I dunno, I think I like breaking up the massive blocks of Demons and Dragons that were in previous MMs.

To go to the actual DMG, what will simply make me at least a faster DM, if not a better one, is if the book is better organized so I can more easily find rules when I need to look them up.

Corollary: DMs are also people, DMs also suck, therefore don't worry about being a good DM!
