    D&D 5E (2014) Sticking with D&D?

I will stick with D&D, though I also play Level Up and WFRP, and will stick with those too. I’m currently running Scarlet Citadel ( Kobold Press) and am likely to stay a lot closer to 3PP products than WOTC stuff. My next campaign will either be homebrew or Goodman’s dark Tower. It seems WOTC...

3PP Release (3rd Party Book Release) Paranormal Power: A Psionics Option for 5e and A5e, written by Steampunkette!

With all that’s going on in our hobby right now, it is so great to see a genuinely nice person like @Steampunkette succeed.

D&D General Follow on from the last thread about a roll that resulted in The Earls Vassals refusing to let his daughter marry his liege's son

To the best of my knowledge (which might well be wrong), the Normans introduced the word “county” as an administration tool after 1066, though these new counties were actually the same as the old Saxon shires in terms of geography. Sheriff was, as you say, from shire-reeve. The use of counties...

D&D General Follow on from the last thread about a roll that resulted in The Earls Vassals refusing to let his daughter marry his liege's son

@Omand is totally correct. By all means, have the title "Earless" in your campaign if you want, but it was never in use in medieval England. Earl was an Anglo-Saxon title, deriving from the Norse word "Jarl" and usually spelt "Eorl" until 1066. The Norman equivalent was "Comte", which gave rise...

D&D General Surely A Domain of 6 Very Large Baronies would have a bigger size class then Small Earldom and the ruler have a higher title then minor Earl

These vassal barons that only indirectly answer to the Earl (not the ones who directly answer of course); surely one of them could marry the poor girl?

I hope WOTC don’t ban these random tables your mate makes, as part of their new OGL policy.

This article, like this whole series, is fantastic. Thank you!

D&D General A old roleplaying magazine had ideas for either buying or earning a title. Why not allow a character that earns a title to pay to upgrade it?

You appear very interested in how medieval power-building took place, in order to transfer to D&D. I’d suggest you research this using historical sources and would recommend starting with the careers of the following, all of whom did it successfully (though not always with happy endings)...

Your "In a Perfect World, I'd be playing X" Roleplaying Campaign

I’m lucky enough to actually be in an awesome Enemy Within game using WHFRP4 rules, run by @TheSword I can’t speak highly enough of the campaign. It’s dark, engaging, challenging and threatening. We are currently in the forests near Wittgenstein, trying to contact a group of outlaws to enlist...

    How do you pronunce "grognard"?

When I’m in UK or USA, option two. Quand je suis en France, l’option trois.

3PP Release (3rd Party Book Release) Paranormal Power: A Psionics Option for 5e and A5e, written by Steampunkette!

I’m with you on 1984 being great for movies (and daughters in my case), but music? No, 1979 had Blondie, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Ramones, Jam, X Ray Specs and many more. Impossible to match!

Your "In a Perfect World, I'd be playing X" Roleplaying Campaign

An interesting question and I’m going to stretch the djinn’s Powers a bit with my answer: I’d choose to play the G and D series of modules. I really wouldn’t mind if we played using 1E or 5e rules but I’d want to “get the band back together” of all the old friends from high school that I played...

D&D General The D&D We Played in 2022

DM-ed the Saltmarsh Campaign for my in-person group to the finish and have just started The Scarlet Citadel for the same group (of players that is; new characters) In the same group, I’ve played in Odyssey of the Dragonlords, run by @TheSword and in Mad Mage. Online, I’ve played in the...

Just my tuppence worth to support: Steampunkette is brilliant. She is an awesome DM, with an engaging and involving style. Incredibly creative and a writer of true talent. She’s also a great person. I truly hope that lots of people will get behind this Kickstarter. It will be superb!

    D&D 5E (2014) Favourite 5e Standalone Adventures

Funnily enough, I’m currently using White Plume Mountain with my two grandkids and my wife, and we’re having a great time. Like you, I hadn’t played it since I was a teen. I’ve used Steading of the Hill Giant Chief a couple times as a one-off, altering the drow-influenced bits to fit the actual...
