    D&D General D&D Loyalty?

I have immense loyalty to D&D, perhaps due to playing since 1976 but more likely down to the many memories of great games during those decades, and the friends that I’ve been blessed to know along the way. That probably includes a small level of loyalty to WotC with a larger level of loyalty to...

D&D General Tech in DnD; What should be included and how much is too much? (+)

My general favourite to DM is probably early medieval, with a tech level of around 1066, so ruling out any form of gunpowder as well as plate armour and similar. That said, I’ll happily play in Victoriana settings and in the pseudo-Renaissance of Warhammer Fantasy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Poignant D&D Moments

Nothing to touch the poignancy of the OP’s, but one of the joys of being part of (currently) three gaming groups is how much everyone is there for each other all the time. Friendliness, supportive comments and shared successes go such a long way. @Composer99 , thank you for sharing your story...

D&D General What Is Your Dream 50th Anniversary Product?

I second @Snarf Zagyg ’s proposal with enthusiasm and to go with it: A mega-adventure set in and around the Yatil Mountains, made up of several new adventures which encompass Caverns of Tsojcanth and Temple of Tharizdun, with Tharizdun being the BBEG for the whole adventure.

D&D General D&D Making Of Book Coming June 2024

I accept the pejorative title of grognard-fanboy and will absolutely be buying this book.

D&D General Night Below: An Underdark Campaign

I ran it all the way through as a 3e campaign, and absolutely loved it. Book 1 was a superbly engaging overground adventure with rich characters and great locations. As mentioned earlier, I raised Jelenneth’s emotional importance by making her the sister of one of the PCs. Books 2 and 3 were...

    Dragon Reflections #72

Really liked this edition. At the time, I was writing a degree dissertation on Eorl Godwin of Wessex and reading a lot of primary sources in Old English, so the Anglo-Saxon character names article was good fun.

Name some of your best Party Origin methods

The characters had all fought in the Greyhawk Wars as young soldiers, just as the wars were ending. About eight months later, their former commander, now marshal of the much-depleted forces of Sterich, called upon them to assist with some raids by hill giants.

    Your Dream Campaign

    This sounds awesome!

    Your Dream Campaign

For me: A 50th Anniversary “Return to”- style of adventure, featuring a 5e update of Caverns of Tsojcanth and Temple of Tharizdun, with surrounding adventures linking to a Tharizdun-based overarching threat. Probably with a redemption arc for Drelzna as an NPC.

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

In no real order: Greyhawk, simply because it was the first and carries so many wonderful and evocative memories. I truly hope the 50th Anniversary returns there in some format. Warhammer Old World, because it’s dark, gritty and awesome, and because in about 40 minutes I’ll be logging on to...

    D&D 3.x 3E/3.5 collecting

I don’t know whether you’re after adventures as well as crunch and settings, but there were some great ones IMO, including but not limited to; Rappan Athuk Crucible of Freya Tomb of Abysthor Red Hand of Doom 3e version of Caverns of Thracia

OSR What Do You prefer 1E vs 2E

1E but not really anything to do with rules, just with placement in my life. 1E was concurrent with school, when life was about rugby, girlfriends, punk rock and D&D, when Dragon magazines were printed, when Judges Guild stuff exploded into games, when we played all night sessions, when I had...

D&D General Bringing out the big guns - Low Level PCs with High Level antagonist NPCs? (And/Or high power items)

I played in a FR game once where the DM had Drizzt show up frequently to “rescue” us. Absolutely hated the game and it put me off FR to a significant extent.

D&D General Bringing out the big guns - Low Level PCs with High Level antagonist NPCs? (And/Or high power items)

I don’t mind the BBEG being known to low level PCs by both name and reputation, but I try to avoid any direct contact until they’re close enough to tackle directly. Similarly, with magic items I tend to go with heirloom weapons that grow stronger as the campaign grows: in my current Scarlet...

Jane Austen/Regency flavor to throw into an adventure?

A dashing young cavalry officer just returned from an overseas war could figure as an NPC. Equally, a group of ragged, ex-soldiers all returned from the aforementioned war and thrown into destitution and banditry; an adversary group that raises moral questions.

Scoundrels of Brixton Grounds The Future In Worlds of Crime

Looks cool, but feels a bit weird that it takes the name of an area of South London where I spent some of my teenage years!

What Property That Has Never Had A TTRPG Adaptation Deserves one?

I’ll second Chronicles of Narnia, and I’ll add David Gemmell’s Drenai saga.

D&D General Jaquaying the dungeon - a term to avoid

I will be quietly Jennelling any dungeons I design, in silent tribute to the inspiration I gained from reading Jennell Jacquays’ work in the late 1970s/early 80s.

D&D General Jaquaying the dungeon - a term to avoid

Not sure who Mr Alexander is, outside the thread about his scathing review of Shattered Obelisk. I do know who Jennell Jacquays is of course, and just how awesome her contribution to the hobby is. From the incredible Dungeoneer magazine, through Dark Tower, Caverns of Thracia and many other...
