Big creatures "moving out" of threatened area

It's a bit unclear from the picture but if B is in the bottom right corner of the dark brown area, then yes. A threatens that area. When B moves from one threatened square to the next square it is leaving a threatened square. This provokes an Attack of Opportunity.

    Shackled City: Gottrod's Revenge

In my game, Gottrod gave the PCs a run for their money. But a few lucky hits convinced Gottrod that he needed withdraw. He fled Crazy Jared's hut badly wounded but alive. He now waits for the moment to strike and take his revenge.... Has anyone else had Gottrod survive? Did he return? I'm...

Some Deity like Eilistraee in Greyhawk world?

Could you just fold that into Corellon's goals rather than importing Eilistraee?

    Homebrew Feat - Pious Devotee

A couple thoughts: 1) I think this feat would work in a world that is bristling with magic. So it's not something I'd allow in my own game. I feel that it takes away the importance and roles of druids and clerics in the world. Also, when it comes to divine magic, aren't the PCs asking for...

    What a devil wants

Well, to be honest, it's half thought experiment and half "Having an card up my sleeve to abort a TPK". In the game I'm DMing, there is a devil fight coming up that happens right after a series of tough fights. It's winnable if the PCs are smart. But we all know that players can be thicker...

Seeking inspiration - Halloween in the land of nightmares

Death Knight template from MM2, add it to a fighter/blackguard and give it a Nightmare mount. Instant Headless Horseman. :) I should have in my notes a halloween-esque adventure I ran for a group a while ago. I can dig in my notebooks and send you a copy of my notes if you want.

    A dragon losing a level

For ease and speed of gaming, why not just treat it as a permanent negative level?

    D&D 3.x Some assistance/advice for my DM (3.5)

If he's worried about giving out the proper magic items, I would just tell everyone that they have the Ancestral Relic feat for free (BoED) and that it applies to all your gear. The problem with D&D, to some degree, is that it assumes you can go and buy your gear in town and that you're going...

    What a devil wants

The party is fighting a devil. They're losing. In a fit of desperation, the party begs for mercy and their lives. The devil pauses and agrees*. What does the devil ask for in return? My first thought is that for every day the party lives past that point, they must serve in the blood war...

    Communing with a spirit

Lanefan the reason I asked is because the spell states you're speaking with the corpse and the memories retained in the body. That the soul has already departed to another plane. But, if that's how your group rolls, awesome. :)

    Intelligent Items & blindsense range

The 3.5 DMG, pg 269, gives blindsense to items with other senses that extend to 120 ft. The way the table is written I would say that the blindsense extends that far, too. If that seems over powered you could always pare it down to 60 or 30 feet. Even Dragons only have blindsense out to 60...

    Communing with a spirit

Yea, but then the halfling would complain because they can't reach the board and the elf would accuse everyone of pushing the planchette. In the end the dwarf decides he's had enough and just breaks the board over the gnome's head. I think this is what I'm leaning towards. A ritual that the...

    Communing with a spirit

In 3.5 there is Speak with Dead which lets you speak with the body of the deceased. The next level of divination lets you contact your deity or agent thereof. What if I wanted to talk to a person's spirit? Lets say I wanted to talk to a person whose body is not available for whatever reason...

    Your take on tabletop scenery

We've always used the battlemat and wet erase markers at the table. One DM I had once ran a game where he used simple pieces of styrofoam to help make elevation. On the styrofoam he had drawn in the squares for the mat. I really thought that was neat since it made terrain feel more real. He...

Questions about Sudden feats and item usage/creation

Heighten is labelled as Metamagic in my copy of the PHB and on the SRD. Maybe you have some sort of rare misprint?

Questions about Sudden feats and item usage/creation

No, the scroll was not created that way. Yes. Though, I cannot find any magic items in the DMG that are empowered. I was hoping that there would be one there that I could look at for a base. Typically the only meta-magic feat used is heightened to raise the spell level. Cost is typically...

D&D 3.x Issues that might arise from a "core book only" 3.5 campaign and possible fixes?

Just to touch on what Ridley's Cohort said, I once DM'd a game where the party found a magical sword. The grip, pommel, cross guard and rain guard were carved to look like the skull of some demon with horns. Mist poured out of the eye sockets. And as your hand wrapped around the grip you...

    XP for session accounts?

I've tried doing these in the past. Usually a full account of the session was too much to ask for from players between work and families. I usually provide the session summaries as the DM now. What is interesting, I've found, is that there are things I will totally gloss over mentally and the...

D&D 3.x Issues that might arise from a "core book only" 3.5 campaign and possible fixes?

Splat books are not a problem in and of themselves. Most of them have their fair mix of good, bad and broken items. And it sounds like from your own posts that your players are not going to go out of their way to break their characters or the game. Do you know what your players want to play...

Have you ever played a pacifist character?

RevTurkey I think a lot of it may come down to DM and campaign, too. If you're fighting some ancient evil that devours the souls of virgins then I doubt anyone is going to fault you for killing it. I'm pretty sure those LG deities will be lining up to give you high fives. But, if you're...
