    The new DM's mistake

Best of luck to you Greenfield. Would you mind letting us know how it goes? I think enough of us have already made some popcorn. ;)

    Magical wards of a castle

Could you use copy/paste to defeat or hinder a teleporting foe? Say the enemy is trying to teleport into Room A but there are four rooms that look just like Room A in the castle grounds? Could your foe suddenly find themselves in the west tower instead of the main keep?

    Magical wards of a castle

Anticipate Teleport and it's greater version delay the arrival of those teleporting and can alert you of their arrival. Automatically resetting traps of daylight would act like security lights. (I tried to build these in my current game and they are ridiculously expensive though.) The spell...

    The new DM's mistake

Greenfield I'm impressed you put up with that. I'm a firm believer that no one's first time as DM is perfect but that story was just ... awful. Did your new DM read this and think it was good advice? Once it became obvious that clever thinking was being punished and that things like fire and...

    The new DM's mistake

Now isn't his character a divine caster? Shouldn't he be sending tithes back to his home temple? Of course, that could lead to all sorts of adventures. The shipment gets robbed or, if he never sends one, going off to atone.

    The new DM's mistake

Rust Monsters! Nightwalkers! Spellgaunts! Disjunction! Or, even better, Nightwalkers riding Spellgaunts while hurling Rust Monsters that cast Disjunction at you!

    Grapple Checks and Armor

I think my biggest concern would be that your full plate fighter (Heaven help him if he has a tower shield!) is never going to be able to fight off a grapple monster*. Trying to resist being swallowed would go from "This is going to be difficult" to "Don't even bother." *Yes, I know size...

    The new DM's mistake

The closest I've had to "too much treasure" was in a campaign where we would get lots of coins and gems but then have nowhere to spend it. We went for a couple of levels just hauling our cash around in magical sacks until we found a travelling magic merchant. Everyone made sure to spend as...

When your regular DM can't (or doesn't want) to DM for a while, how do you prefer to rotate DM duties?

I try to be open with my group. I like to DM but I find that I can burn out easily if I'm running every week. So I ask to run every other. When I suggested that, another player volunteered to run on my "off" weeks. It worked well. :)

    Ignoring Miss Chance

Revelation Crystals from the MIC have ways to negate miss chance and reveal foes.

Fist flavoured Stomach ache: IE How do I punch worms from the inside?

The stomach's AC is intended for how you can escape when you get swallowed. But, rule of cool says you should totally be able to pull an Agent K and attack it on the inside. (I had a wizard once start using touch spells on the inside of a monster!) If you're attacking the worm to get out...

    Running a three way fight

Currently, the PCs are racing against a group of devils and a powerful demon in search of the magical macguffin. It is very likely that all three groups will arrive at (nearly) the same time at the next clue's location. I see the PCs arriving to the clue's location, the demon surrounded by...

looking to make a powerful aoe damage dealer / summoner

Cleric with Malconvoker and/or Thaumaturgist will do exactly what you want. Druids, and to an extent Spirit Shamans, can be great at summoning critters. "I summon 5 T-Rexes, Wildshape into another one and order my T-Rex animal companion to attack".

    Hydra

Hydras are, according to the MM, found in marshes. If it's in a big, deep, marsh the body could be submerged. The water's surface, IIRC, blocks line of effect. Now you have to target the heads. For extra deception, you can "hide" some of the heads underwater*. *How would that work for...

    Ignoring Miss Chance

True Seeing. A Seeking weapon negates miss chance provided you aim it correctly.

What is the fighter class to you?

The fighter is a chassis for all (most?) martial tropes. The sell sword, valiant knight, highway man can all be fighters. I see the fighter as the one that stands between his friends and enemies, attacking those that dare approach. He doesn't have mystical/magical powers but his weapons as...

    Airship Piloting

It's a homemade setting. I'll check the handbook and see what I can lift from it.

    Airship Piloting

In the campaign I'm playing in, we recently captured an airship. Now, none of us have ever flown, let alone been on one, until recently. My character, however, is an accomplished captain and has a caravel that he sails. The DM has suggested that I could take a feat to let me apply my...

Does a D&D monk automatically imply martial artist?

According to wikipedia, the original monk was created by Brian Blume, was inspired by the Destroyer book series and first appeared in the Blackmoor supplement.

    Cleric in need of help!

Hmm ... well given the Bard's music and their spell selection, you can leave party buffing to him. For debuffing you'll have access to things like Poison, Bestow Curse, Blind/Deaf, and things like Wrack (If you're evil) or Lastai's Caress (if you're good). Direct damage, you always have...
