Wow, that's both wholly unexpected and totally awesome. I love Savage Worlds, and I've always thought the setting of Rifts was interesting, but I could not *stand* the mechanics. Will buy.

If the CEO of Hasbro said it, you can take that to the bank. :p On a more serious note, It's nice that D&D seems to be doing well. It's still at a significant competitive disadvantage until they figure out eBooks. But they've only had what, five years? Gotta temper those expectations I guess...

It would take them hours to put the 5E corebooks up on dndclassics.com. Not offering 5E PDFs is a choice.

"WotC is happily working things out with the creators of these apps and the like." While it would probably have been better for them to have led with that, credit where credit is due: It appears WotC is willing to work things out. IMO that is a very positive step.

I am among those who believe that WotC's execution is poor. In fact, I'd go as far as to say comically so. Others see things differently. It seems very, very unlikely that the two sides are going to agree. Besides, it is by the market -- not a message board thread -- that 5E's fate will be...

I'm not certain they quite realize the need for re-invention (though like you, I do). Personally, I would love to see them release a 2nd edition of Pathfinder that tackles some of the mechanical problems they inherited from 3.5, but I can see why they might be hesitant to go there.

In my opinion, Pathfinder's popularity has several causes. Among them: 1. The setting and adventure material is really, really well done. 2. Instead of trying to put the genie back in the bottle via the GSL, Paizo embraced the OGL. As a result, there are a lot more small companies doing...

And I pointed out a rather long list of other publishers that sell to retail but somehow still sell PDFs, despite the pressure they are presumably under. Seriously, the only other RPG I am aware of that I can't get in PDF is the Star Wars stuff, and that's because it's licensed. So if...

The core books are the PHB, the DMG, and the MM. 99.99% of D&D players would tell you that without hesitation. And as has been previously noted, the Rules Compendium does not contain the rules necessary for play. But again, this is beside the point. So let's pretend that the 4E core books...

Or perhaps they realize that out-of-print products have no dead tree revenue source? Which is obviously not the case with 5E. Yet somehow they seem to still mistakenly believe that not offering 5E PDFs somehow prevents them from being pirated. Really, if you have some sort of alternative...
