When I was 14ish (1986), my parents decided D&D was the work of the devil. They made me get rid of my D&D books (I gave them to a friend), and forbade me from playing. I just switched to playing at friend's houses. :cool:

I can't tell you how much I wish WotC (and every other RPG publisher) would do the same. I'd gladly pay a significant premium (at least $10 per book) if I could just get decent bindings.

I'd be happy if they simply offered the PDF at full cover price. That seems like it wouldn't anger book retailers, but would at least allow for a legal acquisition method.

Which is really cool, but doesn't solve the problem. If I want to go to a convention with my iPad to play 4E, the basic rules won't cut it: I need the PHB.
