A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #14 I missed a couple of sessions. The "spirit stones" showed up in one of those. Dearest brother, I know it’s been long since I wrote you last. I won’t attempt to tell you of all that has happened since my previous letter. We've now been saddled with a djinni who calls herself...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #13 Dearest brother; Once again I must apologize for being remiss with my letters. So much has happened that it's difficult to recall it all clearly now. Rescuing kidnapped children seems to have become our task. We discovered that a green hag was taking children from the area we...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #12 Dearest brother; I'm sorry I haven't written lately. There have been some interesting developments among my adventuring companions. We made our way safely back to Highfolk and took care of our business there. But Shishir chose to keep his share of the jewelry we'd acquired in...

Dresden Files, who would you cast?

Yes, we should remember that the expense of doing the puppets of Rygel and Pilot for Farscape is part of what killed that series. If The Dresden Files is at least as well written and acted as Eureka I'll be reasonably satisfied. I'm just afraid that it will turn out to be the quality of some...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #11 Dearest brother; I'm sorry I had to cut my last letter short. I've been occupied with training Rahon. Some of the roaches in the kitchen were even larger than the ones in the common room. I found them so disgusting I could hardly stand to get near them. Most of my companions felt...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #10 Dearest brother; I wasn't surprised when Irvin declined to have company, but Thor was very disappointed that we couldn't leave with the magic tower. After it departed, we decided not to return to Highfolk and instead headed for the pass. We stayed with the caravan until it turned...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #9 Dearest brother; We considered attempting to run through the door should the tower inhabitants open it to admit one of the children, but we decided instead to try the roof again so we could perhaps come at them from behind. We were joined for this assault by Tarhan, the village...

Shadows of Greatness, a Forgotten Realms campaign UPDATED February 1, 2008

Night of the Living Dead As the eve of our dinner with Madu el Barake approached, it was difficult to persuade Rock to set aside his repairs on the temple of Elishar. I was obliged to be most persuasive to convince him that he should return to Lathanul's temple with the rest of our friends to...

    Kill the gods, your experience

You make some good points. I may not care for statting out gods, but it does give a GM somewhere to go should he want to run a campaign in which the PCs have an opportunity to become gods. I have played in a D&D campaign in which one of the PCs became a lesser deity. We ran through the Avatar...

Dresden Files, who would you cast?

Nathan Fillion might be a bit too old, but he's sure got the right style to play a slightly cynical noir-ish character like Harry. Judging by the previews for the series, the tv version of Harry Dresden is going to be a bit more rugged and less gangly than the literary version. No trench coat...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #8 Dearest brother; By the time we reached Crossford I hardly felt I'd earned Meridus's money. We met only a few other travelers and saw nothing of note on the road. But as we neared the town we were met by a group of gnomes who told us of some trouble there. Children had gone missing...

A Journey to the Sea (Greyhawk) UPDATED 7 February 2008

Letter #7 Dearest brother; I'm sorry I haven't kept up with my letters. I suppose that won't matter to you as you'll receive them all at once. As I was telling you in my last letter, we'd met Gerris and Feabie after rescuing them from some orcs and gnolls, and they'd joined us for the...

Does this character seem as cool to you as it does in my head?

Interesting. When we get back to our Eberron campaign my fiancee is going to be playing a warforged soulknife, a secret experimental model illegally created and sent out into the world to see how it functions. If the GM okays it, why not? I often find that unusual builds don't play as well as...

    Kill the gods, your experience

I have played in a "kill the gods" campaign, but not using D&D rules. I prefer to think of D&D gods as far too powerful for even epic-level PCs to handle. I don't even like it that the gods have been statted out.

Pathfinder 1E Who should nourish the others at Paizo?

Well, now that the sales manager has been chosen as the perfect victim, I'm waiting to find out if the rest of the staff will all die of a virulent plague contracted from this mysterious TPS report that only Phil knows how to interpret. Best. Thread. EVAR!!!

How much risk do parties enjoy?

TPK - Almost never. Single character deaths are very rare. The group I play with tends toward long overarching plotlines that are very centered on the PCs. If a PC died it could seriously derail the plot, or at least would make it very difficult to introduce a new PC. In those types of games...

So how do you play cohorts, familiars and animal companions?

Our group does a little bit of everything, depending on the player and the GM. In one former campaign my ranger PC had a dire wolf companion. The GM usually took charge of the wolf, but when we were in combat (and later when we were higher level, most of the time) I ran the wolf because the GM...

    Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I'm still struggling to finish it, but that's partly because I have a hard-cover copy that isn't convenient for transportation, and I tend to do most of my reading on the bus on my way to work. I've been enjoying it though. It's very well done as a pastiche of early 19th-century literature...

live-action big-screen adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender

What worries me more is the casting. Hollywood just doesn't know how to cast decent juvenile actors. With a few exceptions, most child actors mug to the camera and overact horribly and that's considered 'cute'. I just can't imagine any live actors being as charming and subtle as the animated...
