D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

I'm really hoping that since 5e is a much simpler edition than 3e or 4e there will be little if any errata needed. After 2+ years of play testing, they've had plenty of time to get it right. Would the existence of a large amount of errata make me give up on 5e entirely? No, probably not. At...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03/24/2014

I have no problem with pre-selected gear packages as long as players have the option to pick their gear a-la-carte. Since the article says that will be the case, I approve. I hope that even if one picks the gear packages for their class and background, they are also given some money to buy a few...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

I like that they're providing a lot more background information for the monsters. It really helps to bring them to life and make them feel like more than just stats on a page. I also like that the provided fluff is easy to ignore if you want to replace it with your own.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e summary?

This is what I posted on rpg.net in a thread asking about what people like about the new edition. Here are the biggest things that I like about the new edition. * Advantage/Disadvantage: as others have mentioned, this is a much simplified way of getting rid of all the fiddly little modifiers...

    D&D 5E (2014) More about the Warlock. L&L March 3

Don't forget the warlock also has invocations that he can use at-will, and are supposed to be quite a bit more powerful than cantrips. I don't really see how one couldn't consider the warlock to be a full caster. Everything it does is magic.

D&D 5E (2014) Are you happy with the Bard being a full spellcaster?

I prefer for the bard to be a jack of all trades and to dabble in magic, not for it to be their primary focus. In fact, I would have loved for there to be a bard subclass that didn't even use spells at all, but there's a slim chance of that happening now.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03.10.2014: Full-spellcasting Bard

Am I the only one that kind of misses the days when wizards were the only "full" spellcasters that got up to 9th level spells? Being a full caster meant something back then. Bards could only get 6th level spells, rangers could only get 3rd, paladins could only get 4th, and clerics and druids...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03.10.2014: Full-spellcasting Bard

Warlocks basically are full spellcasters, they just use encounter spells instead of daily spells, so they're a bit different. I believe they said warlocks get up to four 6th level spell slots per encounter, which is definitely on par with the power of full casters, and even better in some ways...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03.10.2014: Full-spellcasting Bard

The articles about the sorcerer and warlock had me really excited. The bard, on the other hand, is a letdown for me. I don't like the direction they're taking the class. I don't like bards having full spellcasting. IMO there are too many spellcasting classes already. Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

I'm coming into this discussion a bit late, but I just wanted to share a few of my thoughts. As far as proficiencies go, I honestly don't see a problem with getting all of the weapon and armor proficiencies of a class when you multiclass into it. Nobody is complaining that a single class...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

Umbran was, unless I misunderstood him. From what I have heard, killing things and taking their stuff has been a major part of D&D since the very beginning. I can think of plenty of stories involving evil people using mind control. Sarumon in the Lord of the Rings controlling the king of...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 03/07/2014

The warlock sounds very promising. I can't wait to play one.

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

I can think of more benign uses for necromancy than I can for schools like enchantment and evocation. Seriously. The entire enchantment school is about robbing people of their free will, arguably the most precious thing anyone has (I would say that without free will, life itself is meaningless)...

D&D 5E (2014) Where Should The Magic Items Go?

Considering that magic items are supposed to be purely optional in 5e, I vote for the DMG. Even in 3e, when player characters were able to get item creation feats, they still put the magic items in the DMG. That's making an important statement, I think. Anything that's in the PHB is something...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

But dissolving people's flesh with Melf's acid arrows, burning them to a crisp with fireballs, depriving them of their free will with enchantments, making illusions so horrifying that they literally scare people to death, imprisoning people in gems, turning people permanently into farm animals...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

The game doesn't label necromancy, the entire school, as evil. No edition of the game I'm aware of has ever done that. Only specific spells were designated as being evil. In 5e, the only spell I've seen with any mention of alignments at all is animate dead, and let me tell you, there are some...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

I remember them conducting a poll on their website about the alignment restriction issue, though I'm having difficulty finding it now. I believe they also said their own surveys in the playtest also showed a rejection of alignment restrictions by a large majority of the play testers, which is a...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

That's true, I was just pointing out that people have been philosophizing about the meaning of death and things like the natural order for a very long time.

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

This is a good point. One of the big themes of DnD is killing things and taking their stuff. Looting the bodies of the dead has been considered to be a vile and criminal act in many cultures throughout history, and still is to this day. But DnD doesn't consider there to be anything wrong with...

D&D 5E (2014) Animate Dead and Alignment Restrictions

WotC conducted polls on this topic, and when they put lawful-only monks in a playtest packet, the fan backlash was so overwhelming they quickly retracted that decision.
