D&D 5E (2014) Specialist wizards: Has anything been mentioned?

Good point. I remember them having an "academic" wizard in an older playtest packet that could prepare additional spells and such. Do you think that could work for a "generalist" wizard? Apparently the PHB is going to cost $50. Considering that, yes, they should have every specialist school...

D&D 5E (2014) Initial D&D Next Releases Showing Up on Barnes & Noble Website

I'm also wondering if there's any point to buying the starter set if you already have the PHB. Like maybe it will come with some figurines or tiles or something?

D&D 5E (2014) Initial D&D Next Releases Showing Up on Barnes & Noble Website

I was expecting the core rulebooks to be $35-$40 each. $50 sounds a bit steep, but it also depends on the size and quality of the book. It's also possible that the DMG and MM may be cheaper than the PHB.

D&D 5E (2014) Specialist wizards: Has anything been mentioned?

    Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding.

D&D 5E (2014) Specialist wizards: Has anything been mentioned?

Do we really need a "generalist" wizard? It seems to me like the whole point for there being generalists before was that being a specialist came with penalties, and the generalist option was for people who didn't want those penalties. But now, being a specialist doesn't come with any restricted...

D&D 5E (2014) Do we really need so many classes with Extra Attack?

Fighters get a whole lot more than just extra attacks already. They get maneuvers, action surge, defy death, advantage on all saving throws, more ability score improvements/feats than any other class, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) Casting spells in armour: Do you think the final game will change this?

I couldn't disagree more. Having played a sorcerer in 3.0/3.5/PF more than once, I can attest that having to wait an extra level to gain access to higher level spells is painful. Not only do I think dipping a level of fighter is totally not sleazy, I don't even think it's worth it. Wizards can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock's Revealed in Livestream

By higher levels, do you mean level 20? Interesting. I wonder how this will work with multi-classing. If they get their spells per day as encounter spells instead, they couldn't really add their spell slots together with those of other classes. What do you mean? Cool. Thanks for the info...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 02/28/2014

    1. I'm very glad that sorcerers and wizards won't have the same exact spell list. This was one of the things I was most hoping for. 2. I'm disappointed that wizards can't get metamagics. I can understand why the base class itself wouldn't include them, but they should at least have the option...

D&D 5E (2014) Do we really need so many classes with Extra Attack?

I think the best way to handle extra attacks is this: Classes would be divided into three categories: warriors, half-warriors and non-warriors (they can rename them whatever they want, I'm just using this as an example). Warriors (i.e. barbarians, fighters, etc) get extra attacks at levels 5...

D&D 5E (2014) Do we really need so many classes with Extra Attack?

Not only do I think extra attacks should stay, I think that all "martial" classes (i.e. barbarian, paladin, ranger) should get the same number as fighters.

Legends & Lore: The Sorcerer class

Actually, wizards did have metamagic before 3e. They were just in the form of spells that modified other spells instead of feats (since feats didn't exist back then). The vocalize spell, for example, made other spells silent. The extension series of spells made other spells last longer. Etc.

Legends & Lore: The Sorcerer class

Interesting. I like that the sorcerer gets the same number of spells per day the wizard does. Since they are using the same spells per day table, I believe this also means sorcerers won't be a level behind wizards in learning new spells anymore, which is great. That was always the worst part of...

D&D 5E (2014) Will the inclusion of the option of DoaM cause you to not buy 5e.

While I dislike DoaM, it's not a deal breaker for me.

D&D 5E (2014) Character Concepts you cannot make in 5E

Tenser's transformation. :p In all seriousness, what you're asking for has never existed in any edition of D&D ever, nor should it. A class that's meant to be super specialized in one thing should obviously not be as versatile as a class that has versatility as its focus. Nor would it be at all...

    D&D 5E (2014) Replacing Damage-On-A-Miss

What about instead of damage-on-a-miss, there was damage-on-a-near-miss? For example: Great Weapon Fighting: While wielding a two-handed melee weapon, if you miss your attack roll by 5 or less, you deal damage to the target equal to your Strength modifier (minimum 1). This would keep the...

D&D 5E (2014) Things that make you want to buy 5E

I could list a bunch of the specific reasons why I like 5e, but I'd just be repeating a lot of what other people have already said. In short, 5e has pretty much everything I liked about 3e, without most of the things I didn't like. Overall, the game is simpler, faster and more balanced.

D&D 5E (2014) Will your monsters roll for damage, or have set damage?

Roll. I prefer the unpredictability and suspense of never knowing exactly how much damage a monster will do.
