D&D 5E (2014) can warlocks be good guys?

I don't see "Alignment: evil only" anywhere in the warlock class description. I don't see it under the assassin or necromancer, either. Just the opposite, in fact. The necromancer's description states that "not all necromancers are evil."

    D&D 5E (2014) Concentration: Addressing Player Concerns

I like the concentration mechanic. I think it really helps to balance casters and non-casters and it prevents the excessive buff stacking that happened in other editions. However, I do have two gripes with it. First, most casters aren't proficient with Con saving throws. I believe only the...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Wizard should I be?

All of the wizard specialists are really good, but my favorite is the Conjurer. Its level 2 ability, Minor Conjuration, is one of the most useful features in the entire game. It turns your wizard into a Swiss army knife. Almost any tool you need is at your fingertips, without having to carry...

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] D&D 5e good spell combos

Evard's Black Tentacles + Grease. Enemies will have a hard time escaping your tentacles when they keep slipping and falling. Grease doesn't require concentration, so even a single caster can pull off this combo. Slow + Blindness/Deafness. Badly screws over the enemy and works on just about any...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

I think people are getting tripped up on the word "rarity." As the DMG says, an item's rarity is meant to be a gauge of its over all power - its tier. The term "rarity" is a misnomer. While powerful items do tend to be more rare than weaker ones, the two terms are not always synonymous.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

That's a very good point. However, there are some instances where that limitation doesn't apply. Brooms and carpets of flying, for example, don't require attunement.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

+3 swords are significantly more costly and difficult to create than +1 swords, so there are far fewer of them in the world. They're both more powerful and more scarce.

DMG. p. 135 "Rarity provides a rough measure of an item's power relative to other magic items."

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

I think the rarity rating system can work just fine. I don't think the system needs to be any more granular than it is. I just think they mistakenly gave some items the wrong rating. I don't expect every item with the same rarity rating to be exactly equal. I only have an issue when one item...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

Just because something is flawed in its implementation doesn't mean I can't like the general idea behind it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inconsistencies

First off, I just want to say that for the most part, I really like what they've done with the magic items in this edition. I like the rarity ratings, attunement limits, etc. However, I've noticed some strange inconsistencies with the magic items. Some magic items are better than others with the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dnd 5e polymorph a zombie

I think you would retain control. The animate dead spell's text states that "The creature is under your control for 24 hours, after which it stops obeying any command you've given it." I don't see anything that would suggest that your control over the creature depends upon it retaining its...

How's D&D Working Out For You? First official feedback survey looks at CLASSES and FEATS!

I wonder how questions like "which is more powerful, barbarian or fighter?" are going to help them do that.

D&D 5E (2014) Meteor Swarm Vs. All other spells & DMG's spell creation guidelines

Step 1: Cast wish to duplicate the simulacrum spell without its expensive material component. Step 2: Cast true polymorph the following day to transform your simulacrum into an ancient brass dragon - permanently. Step 3: Profit. Trust me, meteor swarm is child's play compared to the horrors...

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

    They're very rare, not legendary.

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

I'm not sure about that. PHB p. 173 states that "Adventurers can have scores as high as 20, and monsters and divine beings can have scores as high as 30." However, specific beats general, and the description of the tome states that "your Intelligence score increases by 2, as does your maximum...

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

People keep saying this, but it just isn't the reality of the game. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the vast majority of D&D games use magic items. I would think that D&D campaigns that don't use any magic items at all would be in the very tiny minority. I think that when the...

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

The question then becomes why almost every lich that's more than a few centuries old doesn't have an Int score in the high 20's or even 30's.

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

I was really surprised by the tomes. The 100 year recharge limitation keeps most PCs from using the tome repeatedly, but it doesn't explain why some ancient lich that is 1,000 years old hasn't used its tome several times, and it doesn't prevent a PC from benefiting from more than one tome...
