    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian preview!

I have been looking at doing something similar under 5e, but I am holding off until I get the PHB. Probably going to build them all as 4th level to get a grasp of the system and provide an interesting mix of stock NPCs.

He was a Ranger that did not have the required stats and had a Fighter Kit.... Definitely a challenge to build.

Good catch, your right! We had been getting that wrong.

D&D 5E (2014) Differences between the Alpha and the final

Well, looking at Wall of Stone as a guideline. 'The wall is an object made of stone that can be damaged and thus breached. Each panel has AC 15 and 30 hit points per inch of thickness. Reducing a panel to 0 hit points destroys it and might cause connected panels to collapse at the DM’s...

I don't believe Dim Light + Darkvision = Full Light.

D&D 5E (2014) Legends and Lore July 28: Keeping it Classy

Re looking at the rules. If your a Thief, when you get Fast Hands can use your cunning action to make any Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. Which you can almost certainly use to get Advantage on a Melee attack. So a Feint by any other name...

D&D 5E (2014) Legends and Lore July 28: Keeping it Classy

Somewhat mixed bag here: Probably. 'Communicate with a creature without using words' is just an Int check, its pretty close so I think most GMs would use the same system to communicate at a basic level in a language simmer to one you know. Hard to say, but 'feint' is probably a Battle Master...

D&D 5E (2014) Have we seen a list of backgrounds yet?

Seems likely. Although this does seem to be the edition were they happy to put usability rather than symmetry.

D&D 5E (2014) Legends and Lore July 28: Keeping it Classy

'Scout' is actually used as the name of one of the Specialties for the Soldier Background. At one point it was an explicit design goal that the social pillar would be served by Backgrounds, not classes. Although admittedly due to spells and the bard class, there are clear overlaps.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we seen a list of backgrounds yet?

We may also see some survive as Variant Backgrounds the same way Spy did. But even then, Criminal has 8 sub-backgrounds in addition to spy. Sage has 8, Soldier has 8. It is a going to be lot of options; and that's before you take into account you can make your own.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we seen a list of backgrounds yet?

Good question. 14 Artisan Bounty Hunter Charlatan (retained) Commoner (I suspect this has been upgraded to the more heroic sounding 'Folk Hero') Guide Guild Thief (folded into the broader 'Criminal') Jester Minstrel (seems obvious this has been folded into the broader 'Entertainer') Noble...

D&D 5E (2014) Legends and Lore July 28: Keeping it Classy

You do not need a sub-class to play a Dex/Cha Rogue. You do not need a sub-class to play an acrobat.

    D&D 5E (2014) This Game is Deadly

Pretty much almost every healing spell has been downgraded hard. Some now heal half as much as they did in the play test. Conversely, a lot of monsters have had their hit dice increased by 25% to 50%.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we seen a list of backgrounds yet?

The only preview I saw was the Hermit, and that did not get all the Background on one page. Edit: Actually having looked at it again, I think we can be pretty sure that a Background will be approximately 1.5 pages, so around 11 in total in the PHB. edit2: My prediction is 'Acolyte...

At a guess, most play testers thought they were largely redundant.
