If you want to avoid melee, then I'd suggest a Sor who uses darts (a thrown weapon) and knows the true strike spell and magic missile. Just put the 18 in Cha, and then at sixth pick up leadership and get a melee cohort as a bodyguard. Just an idea. Hope things go well. Justin

Yes, it's the only reason I took the one level of Archmage I have. But as to the topic, I look at it this way. For Wizard's it's when preparing spells, for Sorcerer's it's when casting spells.
