WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I agree. People tend to focuse on the income statement, but really should be paying attention to the statement of cash flows.

How Do You Coordinate Your Gaming Sessions?

We coordinate through texting or email. The group is pretty good with responding (seconds to a couple of days). We have a set time and day of the week, and we just indicate whether we're available to play. There are 6 of us in total (1 GM, 5 players), and as long as 4 players are available...

Disney to reboot X-Files (Disney owns an insane amount of Fantasy/Sci Fi IP)

They extracted every last ounce of interest in the series with 11 seasons and a movie. There already was an attempt at a reboot a few years ago. I don't think it lasted more than 2 episodes.

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

I worked for a venture capitalist firm for 3 years. Deeply buried in my spreadsheets, I was mostly insulated from the reality of the impact, but on one assignment I was told to meet the boss on-site. WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

It may have been to the people who were laid off.... People are often laid off often due to the poor planning of the Execs who (rarely) have to face any material consequences for their decisions.

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

Yea, I know why corps do it. But people who say "oh it's just what corps do. "Corps will be corps after all" sound like they are saying it's no big deal if you read between the lines.

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

I'm not shocked by the layoffs. I'm shocked by the people either defending WoTC, or acting like it's no big deal.

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

The Ethisphere award. It was Hasbro, not WoTC that purchased it. However, given that WoTC is their most profitable subsidiary, and considering WoTC's bad press over the past year or so, I'd say it was likely a move to benefit WoTC (essentially good will by association)

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

Just because it's nothing personal, or not inherently evil, doesn't make it OK.

Run, don't walk away from WoTC, and support smaller companies. You have to Find the right Path.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Regardless of the timing, how the compensation is calculated, or when it's vested, he will likely not be penalized in any material way for his poor decision making...ever. They will just continue the practice of curb stomping the employees.

D&D General WotC Founder Peter Adkison On Hasbro's Layoffs

Tax rates are irrelevant for this discussion. The point is that Executives should take (material) responsibility for their mistakes instead of shifting the consequences off to the workers. But that's not part of the business culture. I once built a staffing analysis for a group using their own...
