    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I mean, yeah. That's what I think they're doing actually. They're just branding it as "OneD&D" to get ahead of people wanting to call it 5.5e or 6e because they know that edition changes have historically been kind of bad for retaining players. But mostly I think they're focusing on giving...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I think they're more concerned with getting people onto digital and the book sales are a secondary factor now. Unlike previous edition shifts which came as the edition was losing sales oomph and they needed a new edition to boost sales, this one is happening when 5e is still selling strong...

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

No, that's not what I mean. I mean an actual regular old RPG that has a GM but that is meant to be played with a computer instead of a rule book. But there are people who played and enjoyed Phoenix Command back in the day. There probably still are. It's not for me, but that doesn't mean there...

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

MSHAG was the easiest narrative game I've ever taught to anyone. Something about the game just straddled the line between "traditional RPG" and "narrative RPG" making it easy to get people to cross that line. That's a system that deserves to be resurrected and tried again. I know this will get...

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

I don't think that's necessarily true - I think you can have a game that is expressly designed to be run with a computer and it could be a fine game. It's just probably not a game I'm personally interested in playing. Kind of like how even though I'm impressed by the existence of games like...

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Ah you missed one though - the Marvel Universe RPG. Which is also the only one that was also published in-house by Marvel. I like the playtest version better than that one. Though I agree that where they're sitting now is between that and the other three non-Marvel produced games.

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

Honestly these days what I want is a game where the mechanics are simple enough that I run it online the same way I run it at the table. If I can't run it using what's available using just Owlbear Rodeo I'm probably not going to run it. (I generally use Roll20 - but I also don't use Roll20 for...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I remember a game store owner acquaintance back in the 90s who would complain often that TSR would not update the Temple of Elemental Evil, Against the Slavers, and Queen of Spiders mega modules to 2e or even just keep them in print as 1e adventures so he could order them. He felt those could...

What Licensed RPG Do You Wish Existed But Doesn't?

Not officially licensed, but IIRC back when the cartoon was on the air there was a fan created Gargoyles book for the Storyteller system that was passed around on the internet. I wish I still had a copy - I remember it being pretty good. But a lot of my old 90s downloaded fan creations succumbed...

What Licensed RPG Do You Wish Existed But Doesn't?

My actual answer - Legend of Zelda. My not as serious answer - Super Mario Bros. Mostly because I want to see what kind of game they'd make for that license. My stupid answer - Super Mario Bros. the movie. As a Storyteller/World of Darkness supplement. (EDIT: And I mean the original live...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

This is the thing that makes this question impossible to survey. One person's massive change is another person's minor tweaks. Like saying "it won't be much different than 1e vs. 2e" can mean very different things to different people as far as compatibility goes.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I don't think 5e is fiddly enough to make that work though. I could see that for a 3e or a 4e revision, but 5e is not that tightly balanced.

Ryan Dancy live stream about WotCs surprising change.

You could start with the transcript bot if you'd like: https://youtubetranscript.com/ It uses YouTube's own automated CC (which is often terrible) and it won't be able to identify who says what, but its at least a way to do some keyword spotting as you scroll through the text to see if they...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I think it will be compatible in the sense that the core rules of the game aren't going to change. And by core rules I mean the rules they were originally going to put under CC-BY with their 1.2 OGL talk in the DDB survey. The changes will be in the other parts - classes, monsters, spells, magic...

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Unless Amazon is wrong it looks like this is going to be a $60 hardcover. That's too bad from my perspective - I was hoping for a smaller game with a price around that of one of marvel's graphic novel trade collections. Bigger than the playtest but not that much bigger. Teaching my players...

WotC updates SRD resources page with CC faq and SRD 5.1 under CC

There's a lack of trust that Wizards isn't going to mess with the rest of the tabletop market just because they can. There's also a lack of trust that just because Wizards doesn't think it benefits them to do so now, that a future group of c-suite guys won't do it in the future because they...

    D&D Movie/TV Here Come The D&D Movie Gaming Tie-Ins!

As far as I can tell Wizards has been very careful to not only not refer to "5e" as anything but D&D, they've also been very careful to not make their "OneD&D" initiative sound like an edition change. If anyone was saying that it was probably just folks around here who really want OneD&D to be...

DC Announces New Movie and TV Plans

I mean if he's allowed to embrace the fact that a guy like Hal Jordan in real life is 100% smarmy loser and being fearless in his context would be more of a mental illness than an admirable quality ... I'm still not sure it's a show I'd want to watch but at least it would appeal to some folks...

Not DnD - Shadow of the Weird Wizard with Rob Schwalb

Ok - kickstarting in late March/early April. I'm going to need to watch out for this. I enjoy a lot of what I see in SoDL but it's not a game for my players. This sounds like it might be more up their ally.
