This is the thing that makes this question impossible to survey. One person's massive change is another person's minor tweaks. Like saying "it won't be much different than 1e vs. 2e" can mean very different things to different people as far as compatibility goes.

I don't think 5e is fiddly enough to make that work though. I could see that for a 3e or a 4e revision, but 5e is not that tightly balanced.
