Law vs. Chaos - the forgotten conflict

My favorite beings of Law are the Auditors of Reality from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. The idea that these villains are malicious because life is messy and creates messy paperwork is a priceless part of the Discworld cannon. It makes sense then that Death usually works against the...

    Skill Tricks; good or bad?

I like the flavor, dislike the added complexity. I'd rather they had a set of DCs to accomplish the tasks with the skills as written. Maybe you have to simultaneously successfully roll two skills - Jump and Climb for example - to do a particular task.

How much would you sell a Bag of Devouring for ?

2500 to the PCs so they won't suspect that anything is different. :]

    Error in Magic Item Compendium

[Tongue-in-cheek] But a doubling of zero is still zero! [/Tongue-in-cheek] I'd just DM Fiat that scorpion to Large and call it a day.

Is a suppressed item considered non-magical for spell targeting?

Empurpled. Empurpled. Empurpled. Empurpledempurpledempurpled. It just rolls of the tongue. :) And I'd allow Shatter to work against a supressed magic weapon.

    [Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

I figure I'll go ahead and ask this one last time: For anyone who is familiar with the Gleemax boards: what is the draw? What is it that those boards provide that is unique to that site? Is there a bell or whistle that makes it a different animal from ENWorld? Is there a difference between...

What alignment are these Harry Potter characters? (Spoilers abound.)

His last name is "Auidt" and he hears from the IRS every April, maybe?

What alignment are these Harry Potter characters? (Spoilers abound.)

I must have a different edition of dictionary than you. Where is this definition from?

    Destruction on a ludicrous scale

How would you destroy a Prime Material Plane? Well, if anybody would be up to the task it would be this guy.

    Help w/future assassin levels..

Flanking, SRD When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus... You can't flank with ranged spells because you're not making a melee attack. You would be able to flank with Shocking Grasp because it's a melee touch attack. Again, you're in Ravenloft: Sneak Attack is going to be nearly...

    Better blaster: evoker or sorcerer?

By all means. The Wizard is welcome to spend GP and XP to catch him up to something the Sorcerer can already do with his spells. The sorcerer has fewer spells to do it with, so we're back to even. So it still depends on how much prescience the Evoker has. *Shrug*. The rods grant "the ability to...

    Better blaster: evoker or sorcerer?

Oh, sure. The best Boom-mage is going to be a Focused Specialist Evoker / Master Specialist. Just make sure not to pick Conjuration as your barred school, since you'll be pulling from that school quite a bit. The Orbs are the tipping point. If they're allowed, then it's the Conjurer that's the...

    Better blaster: evoker or sorcerer?

Back at you: Inflexible. If you say that all the Evoker is going to do is blast stuff, and that's how you prepare your spells, then that's all he can do. A sorcerer can blast all day but if a problem shows up that can't be solved by a [Quickened] spell, he can use his other spells known. Once...

    Help w/future assassin levels..

If it's Spellwarp Sniper that you like, then all you need is Rogue1/Wizard5. 5 more levels will take you to the end of Spellwarp Sniper. If your DM allowed Sudden Raystrike to qualify as Sneak Attack dice, then you could move right on in to Arcane Trickster. You'd end up with Sneak Attack +5d6...

    Better blaster: evoker or sorcerer?

The wizard has better use of Metamagic than the Sorcerer? Who can add metamagic at his whim? My dear fellow, the ability to use metamagic without preparing it ahead of time is one of the reasons Sorcerers' spells per day progression lags one character level behind.

    Better blaster: evoker or sorcerer?

Sorcerer. Only really needs one attack spell per spell level and can metamagic as needs must to get the most out of his spells. And at the very least, the Sorcerer can always fall back to Magic Missile which he'll be able to cast umpteen times per day.

    Question about seafaring

Profession (sailor) Knowledge (geography) Knowledge (astronomy) Those are the ones I'd say would be necessary; I don't have any rules made for them, though Stormwrack does, I think.

    Help w/future assassin levels..

Would you consider telling us the style of character you'd like, and allow us to suggest builds? Your DM earlier expressed frustration at the amount of character altering and the number of classes you level in; don't you think this build will do the same thing? If you're going for a specific...

Is railroading sometimes a necessary evil?

You had said something about a strawman? Perhaps you refer to my T-intersection metaphor? Where the DM controls the environment and the PCs must react? How is that telling the PCs what they have to do? If the DM controls how his team will react, would you mind telling me how the players will...
