    STARGATE UNIVERSE #4:Pathogen/Season 2/2010

Ahhhh, I finally got to see this episode after Hulu's abhorrent 30-day delay. I thought it was good. I wasn't bothered by the slow pace, but maybe it was because I waited a month plus between episodes and I was craving another. There was a lot of emotion thrown around in this episode, and I'd...

    Let's write some riddles!

*looks around* Did you just call me Hussar? :p Unless I accidentally put him on ignore I don't think he's posted in this thread yet.

    Let's write some riddles!

You got to do those in school? Awesome! Isn't that one used in The Hobbit? The answer, of course, is

    Let's write some riddles!

Okay, there's no way you got the third one unless you already knew the answer or you googled it. I didn't really post that one with the intent that someone would try to answer it in this thread. You might want to go back and edit your post to sblock that out. You're really doing yourself a...

    Let's write some riddles!

Earlier riddle made me think of this one... A man and his son are in a car crash. They are rushed to separate hospitals in separate towns. As the boy is taken out of the ambulance and brought to a surgeon, the surgeon looks down and says, "I can't operate on this boy, he's my son." How is...

What is the best computer game you have ever played?

FYI, a lot of these games are available on GOG.com. They're cheap, DRM-free, and fixed to run on modern operating systems.

    Let's write some riddles!

I made this one up a little while ago. I think it's pretty easy. A city of stone where no one lives Yet many will visit each day. You'll come many times to see old friends And then you'll come once to stay. And I heard this one a while ago: What's better than god, worse than the devil? Poor...

Putting the PCs on trial for being heroic

As people have said, this type of plot is definitely better if the players have some sort of foreshadowing that it's going to happen. Some NPC should let them know that if they do X then Y is going to happen, and then the PCs have to weigh the pros against the cons and decide if saving the town...

Putting the PCs on trial for being heroic

Like On Puget Sound said, this is a staple for storytelling. The heroes do what they know is right and get punished for it, forcing them to run from the law or try to prove their innocence. I would love to play in a story like that. If it goes on over several sessions or an entire campaign...

    What is arcane magic?

Kinda. They explain it in bits and pieces across the series, and I've only read the first two books so far. I get the picture that you're harnessing some sort of energy (whether it comes from yourself or from elsewhere, I'm not sure) using tricks like speaking nonsense words and drawing...

    What is arcane magic?

The language doesn't necessarily have to be created by anyone. It could just be there. It might be more like the words created everything, the words are everything. Imagine that you live inside a computer game. If you learned to speak magical words of "code" you could change the world...

    What is arcane magic?

"True names" or magical languages are often portrayed as being in the One True Language. Think Tower of Babel. It's a language so old that it was not invented - it just IS. All other languages are derivations of the true language. Mortal languages cannot compare to the descriptive power of...

    Gaming, Adults, and Growing Up

To the OP: You really need to find out if this is a big deal for her. Don't shy away from the subject because it makes you uncomfortable, because issues like this are things you need to work out before you get married, not after. This reminds me of conversations I used to have with one of my...

    [merged] Site speed threads x3

That's not always the case, you know. It is now, but sometimes problems on one user's computer or network can make the site slow for them and no one else. So if the site is slow for you it's normal to drop by the Meta forum and say, "Hey, is the site slow for anyone else?" or look for other...

    Hulu and Syfy?

Aw, I love SGU. :.-( But not enough to pay an extra $50 a month to see it the day it airs and get counted in the ratings. (I watch it only through Hulu.)

    Hulu and Syfy?

Canceled? Doh! If they removed it from their lineup then we might never see the remaining episodes. Apparently they thought they'd earn more if they put another show in its slot. Hopefully they'll realize that airing those shows digitally (like on Hulu) won't cost them anything they haven't...

    Hulu and Syfy?

I don't know about Caprica, but there's an availability note on the SGU page about how they are offering episodes 30 (!) days after they air. I was discussing it here: http://www.enworld.org/forum/media-lounge-off-topic/296080-hulu-sgu.html Edit: Caprica's page still says they're providing...

    What is arcane magic?

It really depends on how much detail you get into. Just saying, "Magic is talking to the spirits that inhabit everything," isn't very sciency, true, but if you start detailing the types of spirits, what offerings and words you need to cajole each one, and what you get when you cajole them, how...

    What is arcane magic?

I like that metaphor. It's like the universe is a car and an arcane wizard is someone who reaches under the steering wheel, yanks out some wires, and starts it without the key. Wizards are reality hackers.
