    Populations

Ever heard of Stalingrad? The deaths were a lot more than 10%. I believe Angkor went from about 1,000,000 people in the 12th century to less than 30,000 by the 16th. When the French "discovered" (it never really was lost) it in the 19th century, the inhabitants had no idea how big it used to be...

Doctor Who 2007, Episode 2: "The Shakespeare Code" (Spoilers Likely)

I second City of Death. A lot (as in nearly all) of the classic Doctor Who's are slow. In some of them the Doctor doesn't turn up until halfway through the first episode. My recommendations from the available DVDs (considering you want decent pacing): Carnival of Monsters. Complex plot. Slow...

    Favourite intelligent plant

I suppose you want a myxomycete option as well to cover intelligent oozes. No pleasing some people :p Anyway, vegepygmies reproduce via russet mold, which is a fungus  Maybe they're a form of semi-intelligent lichen?

Doctor Who 2007, Episode 3: Gridlock (Spoiler Alert!)

"Aeryn is with child" - oops wrong show... (starts again...) Started off crap, then became wonderful. Definitely worth a rewatch. Plot hole:

    Favourite intelligent plant

Thanks. I aim to please. Interesting that no-one who's chosen the pedantic option has posted - I know there are a few seaweed monsters out there. Speak up! One of my favourites too, but I thought they'd be too obscure to get an option (but then I did put Volodni up there).

    Favourite intelligent plant

Damn - forgot about them, otherwise they'd've been in the poll too.

    Favourite intelligent plant

So, what's your favourite intelligent plant? Not necessarily D&D, as some of the poll options show. EDIT: Some people have mentioned shamblers, vampire roses and other monsterous plants. By intelligent, I mean something with a society or that you could hold a conversation with.

Books you DON'T want to see WotC publish

Races of the World. Not actually a game supplement, but an anthropology text book as Hasbro commission Wizards to make educational material for obscure tax reasons.

Should Drow be more "Norse" because of their origin?

No. It's Lederhosen or nothing. Anyway, Belgians are firbolgs, not kobolds.

Should Drow be more "Norse" because of their origin?

Those are two of the most awesome suggestions I've ever heard

The PG version will have a soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails?

Doctor Who 2007, Episode 1: "Smith and Jones" (Spoilers likely)

Good point - I hadn't noticed it either. Counting Torchwood, that'll be five black/white versus two black/black (both defunct). And back to topic: Great opener! Freema reminds of Liz Shaw with her attitude.

When did wizards start living in towers?

Thanks! Once again, Gutenberg delivers, but unfortunately the English translation is a bit of a mess and my Italian is quite rough. Nonetheless I see what you mean - Atlante is definitely a wizard who lives in a tower (and uses it as a prison). Any advance on 1520 then?

When did wizards start living in towers?

...by the king, who wants her to spin it into gold. Rumpelstiltskin then comes to make his bargain. Thanks - that's enough to search on! Courtesy of Project Gutenberg: That's pretty close, considering that the "Castle" certainly is a Zoroastrian fire tower. Now, why did it take another 600...

When did wizards start living in towers?

I'm sure the magi are the main inspiration, but I still can't find a pre-20th century story featuring a wizard in a tower. "Ivory towers" are probably another inspiration, but they've always been metaphorical, not literal. BTW, in which version of Rumpelstiltskin does he have a tower?

The Top 10 Gayest Characters in Tabletop Gaming

Wow, what a badly designed site! Fortunately, the content was funny enough to warrant checking the whole list, and they haven't mixed up "camp" and "gay". Might have to be rewritten if anyone releases a Fushigi Yuugi RPG.

    Good Arabian themed movies?

My list: Arabian Adventure. Much maligned, but terrific fun. Loads of cliches, but deft with them. El Hazard anime series. Vaguely Arabian. Thirteenth Warrior. Better than most critics make it out to be. Hearts and Armour. European film which makes Hollywood films look historically accurate...
