    PHB2 Classes simply better?

I agree that the PHB2 classes are better presented and a maybe a little better at their role in some instances, but the PHB1 classes are not bad by any means. The new powers and such in the [Power Source] Power books help with any real shortfalls, though. For example, I'm looking at reworking...

Anyone else not feel "the grind"

This is the biggest issue leading to grind for our group. 4 whole rounds of NO ONE in the party rolling above 6 is not pretty.

    Updating Dungeons

Yeah, i did notice that it basically says the only way the PCs stand a chance is to give them the Globe (either through the hermit or a scroll) :P. I don't think I'm going for a final battle that is nigh-impossible though. I'll definitely add a few other creatures to the end and level up the...

    Updating Dungeons

I've actually been working on converting one for a level 8-11 adventure for our group (we're trying a DM rotation so every gets a chance to play at the various tiers). I came into a pile of older adventures a few years ago, and was finally looking through them. I settled on N1 - "Against the...

    NPC to bolster the party

If you're making your own campaign (as it seems you are), why not just balance the encounters for 4 characters? Even if it's a published adventure all you really need to do is remove a monster or two from encounters to balance it for 4. Unless I'm missing something.

PHB2 general feats review (heroic tier)

Yeah, it helps you hitting the enemies in this situation, but it also gives you a better chance to hit your allies. It's great for classes that have a lot of bursts and blasts that help/don't affect allies, but for a wizard it's a bit iffy. ... I'm about to start DMing my first 4e game in a...

    Rules for Designing NPCs?

What level do you want it to be in 4e? I don't see any Orcs in the MM that seem to fit the cleric/magic user type role, but you could always find another monster in the MM that fits the role and level you're looking for and just reflavor its abilities.

    Raising the wounded

Out of curiosity, if you roll a 20 with no surges left, are there any official rules dealing with that? That happened to my character a few months ago, and we just ruled that it stabilized me, since I couldn't spend a surge to get up.

    Multiclassing and Expanded Spellbook

If he lost expanded spellbook he would go from 3 Utility/Daily powers to 2. Personally, I dropped it for a different feat the last time I leveled up because I never found myself using that third spell I had chosen. Maybe I don't understand multiclassing (I haven't done it), but why would he...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

A standard combat for our group (Wizard, Paladin, Cleric, Rogue, Fighter) takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. However, they can take even longer (up to 3), in the event we roll consistently poorly as a group--which happens far too often. We had a long one last session...I think we went nearly 3...

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

Where in the US do you live? I see Hobgoblin (assuming you mean this Hobgoblin) at any store with a halfway decent beer selection here in Omaha, Nebraska. ... Anyway, on topic, I guess my group averages to 0. Sometimes I'll have a beer, and sometimes our DM will, but the other 3 never touch...

What direction will D&D head in?

Where does this "4e has no roleplaying" come from? I've played a few 4e sessions and my group has had tons of roleplaying. The rules for D&D have always seemed "combat focused" to me, mainly because that's the part of the game that needs mechanics to handle it, whereas roleplaying is almost...

    Kobold Inconsistancy

It's possible the minions fight on because, well, they're minions, and they know that if they ran, they'd be killed by their masters for sure, so fighting the PCs gives them a slim chance at survival. We haven't seen the "fluff" for the kobolds, so hopefully it's explained, but I've found my...

    D&D 4E AICN Massawyrm's 4E Review - Part 3

I'm really hoping, as someone else said, since he's been playing with Minis since forever, his view on that is a bit skewed. Everything we've seen so far doesn't seem like not using minis is going to be a huge challenge, but time will tell, and we won't really know until we play it ourselves...

    D&D 4E AICN Massawyrm's 4E Review - Part 3

I'm slightly concerned about the requirement of minis, as our group has never really used them on a grid, mostly just setting them out to get a general idea of where everyone is, and that's only been a recent(within the last couple years) development as we ran into way too many instances of...

    D&D 4E IGN article on 4e

Obsidian (NWN2 and KotOR2) isn't bad as long as they're not rushed. Both of those games were...decent. They were certainly unfinished but what was there was really good, even if it was a little rough around the edges. But after playing the Mask of the Betrayer expansion for NWN2, I'm...

    D&D 4E AICN 4e Review Part 2: DMing 4e

I've never had a problem with this in 3e. The uses of the word "might" implies that there may be shops that sell magical items. Nowhere in there does it say there needs to be. It also doesn't say anything about "You must have shops that sell every magical item the PCs can afford". My group...

[Exploits] Ranger Daily: Split the Tree

The name "exploit" makes sense for martial powers, but I find myself reading through threads and thinking it's a bad thing when someone is talking about an "exploit". My mind registers it as an exploit in the rules to be taken advantage of for a bit. I'll get used to it, it's just kind...

[Exploits] Ranger Daily: Split the Tree

Nevermind, martial powers = "exploits". I got confused.
