You can have a fey warlock in 3.5. There isn't any crunch for the pact you choose, but in the class description it talks about infernal and fey warlocks. I took some Fey Heritage feats from Complete Mage to add a little crunch to it, myself.

I'm doubtful, but I can't say "no" for sure. If something happens and my group moves away from each other or something, it might end up worthwhile, but otherwise I doubt it.

Hell, you need one for any race with even LLV if you're venturing into a pitch black cave/dungeon/what-have-you.

I think part of the plan is that if they release new PHB/DMG every year, they don't have to make a 4.5 if 4e has issues, they can just update in the new PHBs and DMGs, and not break their "There will not be a 4.5" promise. I mean, part of it certainly will be to add new stuff and sell more...
