    How Popular is Rugby World-wide?

to paraphrase (badly) another poster with whom you may be familiar... Rugby (union) is the only true game. All others are pale imitations of the real thing.

    DM vs Player

Thanks doc, thats a nifty way of doing it... I might borrow that for my game.

Anything wrong with just playing D&D?

Theres been a lot of interesting points in this thread, but this is the key one. For a lot of people, playing another game system can really get the creative juices flowing. For our gaming group, two extended campaigns of Vampire and Werewolf reinvigorated our gaming. That said, since the D&D...

OK hands up, who likes hex maps?

good stuff. have you thought about using hexmapper? being able to create your own tilesets can be pretty cool if your making a lotta maps

HARP has been released!!! (NOT d20!!)

Rasyr, Thanks for a very detailed explanation of ICE's decision not to go open - isnt often a game company openly goes into so much detail as to why they are doing things. Very much looking forward to getting my hands on HARP, as my group(s) are longtime RM fans, and HARP looks like an...

[Very Much Alive/Old Thread] Sir Ian McKellen...

I'll second this. I based a great alternate history game on some concepts of this movie.

Has anyone ever played "themself" in a game of any sort?

Did this once in a GURPS Mage the Ascension game. We were Mages (well duh) and the Technocracy won, killing us (and a few million others by accident). Or rather than killing us, we were shifted sideways. It was an interestign game as it combined Mage with a post-apocalypse feel. unfortunately...

New info on the Iron Kingdoms Campaign Guides

put me down in the "feh" category as well. I'm sorry but if a couple of months ago they were saying they were ready to go for xmas, and now they have made a radical (Im sorry, doubling the page count and splitting it is pretty radical) change and expect to be able to turn it around in a couple...

    AEG Empire, how is it?

while i cant speak for Psion, I would assume the fact that FoB has been delayed/rumoured for two years is reason enough to be baffled that people are still waiting for it. I see people still panting over it, and am somewhat startled myself.

Do you keep your Players in the Dark?

keep it secret initially, and then if they get familiar with a create/person or if the combat is a complex one give out some of the info.

    Call of Cthulhu, Greyhound style

Which means, if you pitch it right, the prometheans could be initally cast as "the good guys", helping the PC's out with some critical knowledge, until at the last moment, the mask slips....... I'm not sure if you are able to do so, but have you thought about doing a bait-and-switch? Have the...

    Whither "Fields of Blood"?

!?!?!? I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. My view is that MMS:WE is adequate for much of the tasks of kingdom management. Where it fails is in areas such as expanding holdings, and the inegration of religous and guild holdings into the system. The companion rules rocked, as...

    Whither "Fields of Blood"?

errr. MMS:WE? Ennies anyone? Since what you seem to be looking for in kingdom management rules is fairly specific, I think this comment is a little unfair. (As it happens your description of what you're after is very similar to what I want in a set of rules - unfortunately, speaking as a...

    Tidally locked world

the TORG rulebook/worldbook had a section in it about an Earth that had its spin slowed and then stopped - including the temperatures over the course of serveral months after tidelocking.

    How long until D&D 3.7e?

not necessarily. Larger corporations tend to be quite protective of IP, so they could do just that (though very unlikely). Your comment re: OGL is valid though. Essentially now D&D cant be killed off. It Will Rise Again. Trainz comment re Unearthed Arcana is how I feel about 3.7.

    Thumbs Down to 3.5 Edition

w3rd I own quite a few miniatures - and I prefere to run 3e with them, but the game I am running at the moment works fine without them. Keep it in your head, scrawl on bits of paper, use the 50/50 rule if your'e not sure whether that player can flank that npc. easy.

Sell me on "Magical Medieval Society" WE

One of the things I particularly like about mms:we is how the systems they introduced for running estates start off very small scale and fairly detailed, but can be zoomed out and abstracted at the larger scale. Plus, it has useful bits like: a system for how much magical goodies a lord might...

    Shadowrun: sell it to me!

hmmm. forgive me if im wrong, but in third ed, most pools are limited by you skill in whatever you are doing. speaking of 3rd ed, if you have played previous versions and had problems, most of tehm are sorted in 3rd. seriously. decking is a lot smoother, some of teh more outrageous munchkinism...
