Guilds, Economics, Ships, Trade by Land and Sea!

Greetings SHARK. While I can certainly understand the reasons why some people 'handwave' economics, I feel that having at least some elements of it in a game can help with that game's internal consistency. For example - say a party has been hired as caravan guards (a common D&D cliche). While...

So I was more or less kicked out of my D&D group

Loathe as I am to agree with an Australian, Is bang on. This whole thing is just an emotional and/or testosterone car wreck. If you and some of the other players end up forming a game, cool. If not, and you find another group, also cool. What I have found bizzarre is some of the responses...

DM seeks help in 'touchy' situation

I dont see why there's any question here. She offered to do something 'special' for you right? Just tell her; well, ok, I dont find many people into the kind of stuff that I like, but I'll take you up on that offer. Make her bring the bowl of mayonnaise though - youre the GM, you shouldnt have...

    RPGing and Alcohol.

Maybe. Some time ago, I use to run a shadowrun game that was held at a gaming forums regular meetings - which were at a pub. Most of us didnt drink, but those those who did made up for it. One player would regularly turn up half-cut already, and then down a few more. It turned out pretty...

    Never homebrewed!

Ive homebrewed most of the time with my fantasy games. In the past however, Id often beaver away for a few weeks, promising to start the game "once I was ready", and then either stop, or start the game half cocked. What Ive done recently however, is I started with a "grand scheme" idea, fleshed...

[Rant] Oh. My. God. He said no!

just remember that you can boot someone from a game, but that doesnt have to be permanent. I had a case where one player was being disruptive in a game I was playing in - the GM was getting more and more stressed in the game, and it was rally beginning to show. THe straw that broke the camels...

yup. Good idea for using it for sneak attack too.

Does Anyone use Ken Hood's Grim_n_Gritty System?

the problems with the system? 1. Small creatures are very, very easy to kill/maim. (which Im ok with) 2. the Armour penetration rules only list a couple of weapons, and the values listed seem to largely counteract most common armours. Other than that, its actually quite easy to use, and...

Gaffs, snorts, spits and other embarrassing RPG moments.

Sigh. Did you know that d4's make handy caltrops? While playing in a fairly crowded room, I jumped over another player (lying on the floor) to get to my character sheet. Only to discover some fiend had been laying caltrops. Ow.

Our first D&D game of the new year

My first d&d game of the year rocked. I attacked my three players (all 7th level) with a combined force of some lizardmen-like creatures on the ground, and in the air on mobats. One of the players, after casting all his buffing spells and invisibility, was stunned by the mobats sonic attack...

Are these limitations on Player choice too much-- Long

not a biggie at all - in fact these days I prefer it if the gm lays down the "heres roughly what I want" rather than end up with a zoo. as a gm, im probably slightly more restrictive with classes, etc.
