Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

While I would normally agree with you, there's an arguement that a good part of PF's audience is "gearheads", as they may be less likely to move to 4e at this stage, and thus are looking for a 3.75 system. For that audience, more subsystems aren't a bad thing in and of themselves... On an...

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

Hmmm.. well if they are going GSL, they did a good job of being coy about it. Probably got them some sales from the "fight tha power" crowd. The pre Oct 1 thing is a bit wierd though. Edit - are DCC d20 products? In which case that license (effectively) terminates shortly? (i.e. nothing to...

How does the GSL affect me?

Monte Cook* used to design stuff for Rolemaster. The industry doesn't normally lack for people wanting to be game designers, and these people find ways to show off their stuff. (yes, he was a 3e designer, not 4e. yadda)

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

I think Chris has some very valid points. However, based on my recent experience in introducing new players to D&D 3.5 (at 1st, 3rd and 9th level), and playing (and about to DM) 4e, there is simply no contest betweeb the editions in how easy it is/would be for a averagely experienced GM to...

    3.5 or what?

Maybe being accused of being WotC's catamite should be taken as a compliment? ;) Pssst! These queries are generally much better done via email - your post, while fairly polite, does tread perilously close to the dreaded "calling the mod out"

What do you love about 4e

What I like as a player - Quick and easy character creation, with the classes, multiclassing, skill system and powers giving me plenty of stuff to hang ideas off. Hell, we had 7 players, 3 books, and we all had good characters ready to go in a couple of hours. Quick and easy equipment - less...

You don't like the new edition? Tell me about it!

I will admit I don't have any great love for them either. In fact, I don't recall anyone in any game I've ever played in wanting to be a dragon-type race. Ever. Certainly most of the homebrews I've run or played in don't have a slot for them (though I suppose they would be ideal in others). I'm...

Now that 4e is out, are you into it or sticking with a prior edition?

Indeed. Hate 4e all you want, but smack talk like "It's a fine tabletop wargame, but it's not a roleplaying game" is just BS. In fact it's as rude as the now-banned (?) "that's a fine house rule, but it's not the RAW". It's just being said for effect - it's untrue (and even the person saying it...

You don't like the new edition? Tell me about it!

The foulest insult so far! Sir, do you have no shame? Do you finally have no shame? ;)

Now that 4e is out, are you into it or sticking with a prior edition?

IIRC - necromancer games are looking to put out an Alternate PH with the "missing" classes, written (I think) by mouseferatu. Might help.

    Dragon & Dungeon Article reviews

I'm with Lizard (and feel a bit dirty now). They will need to put out some consistenly good stuff for me to signup, but if they keep up this sort of content, I'm in. Warforged article? faptastic. (PS - Lizard I loved the Poly content - those minigames were great!)

    D&D is Back!

. Nah, I'm still getting the same feel - obviously there are some process differences (lifcycle of relevant editions, the 3.0/3.5 thang, different marketing methods, higher internet presence, etc), but to be perfectly honest, I think these elements pale in comparison to the perspective...

    Where's the oppressive fluff?

And people say that the marketing of 4e was poor. Hah!

    D&D is Back!

Hmmm. tbh I'm seeing pretty much the same dynamics as during the 3e launch. A little bit more overall negativity this time perhaps, but not that much in any important way.

So very true. About time too.

Update!: Dragon 364: ToCs, new Demonicon, and Warforged as PCs!

mmmmm... some very nice stuff already - and I'm looking forward to some of the articles yet to come! Keep this up, and I could be a subscriber... The integration of the dragon rules into the rules compendium is absolutely fantastic! So many times I used to not bother finding a new...

    Minion Fist Fights

A house rule is RAW because of Rule 0? Try and make that fly in the Rules Forum. I triple-dog-dare ya.

    Five Alignments?

Charwoman Gene speaks much wisdom. Well, this time at least. If CE follows on from the hints we've got (cosmology, etc), it should actually be very cool. I'm very curious now to see what LG will be - I'm unconvinced that the description above is completely correct.
