Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Yes indeed. Back to what C&C IS as opposed to what others might prefer. Its a framework. Like those that finish the exteriors of buildings with the facing and deccor they wish, players and game masters can take this simple framework of base classes, underlying core conflict resolution...

[C&C] Will there be a revised Player's book?

I read that reply. I just know that circumstances can often change plans. Its certainly been my experience with working in the publishing industry. :) Edit: And I found out my initial statement is correct. (Just talked to Steve who is in Denver for anyone who wants to go see him at the Con'...

[C&C] Will there be a revised Player's book?

Steve once mentioned to me that a reprint wouldnt be done till X number of copies have been sold. AFAIK they are sticking to that premise since the # sold hasn't reached the target number he mentioned. Much of it had to do with the cost of printing and # of copies sold that would cover said...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

This is where the communication breaks down I guess? The level at which rules are 'too much' or 'not enough.' The problems arise when a variety of people dont just point out that a given amount of information is insufficient, its when few of these same people are agreeing on the same area...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

*grinz* I dunno? Hopefully something more constructive that involves initiative and individual creative problem solving? Maybe I'm reaching here? ;)

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

This is not quite true. What 'logic' was asserted had to do with internal logical consistency of a basic premise or theme emphasised behind the rules. This theme asserted the dominance of the human being. One way the designers felt this was acomplished was by level limits. Clearly, others may...

The word assassin has as a popular historical evolution from a sort of hashish religious sect known as the hassassin.. :)

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

I'l break down the main difficulty I have with the current incarnation of the game. It's too much stuff to keep track of. C&C, I have basicly 3 formulae to keep track of. 3rd edition + I have a whole load of numbers intertwined with feats, skills and various 'number stacks' that my mild form...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

*Busts out laughing* Hey. Law of averages. I figure I could get at least one thing right? :D

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Ah. But by who's logic? When designing a game to fit a certain style the logical consistency is in the mind of the designer, and may not always agree with the logic of anyone else. This is a purely subjective point. Fantasy has its own internal logic that the person perusing it simply accepts...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Sounds about right to me, mate. :) I for one absolutely hate 'which is the better game questions'. I can offer my opinon based on the style I prefer, but trying to give a rational answer to someone who's stylistic preferences so widely vary from my own is like trying to beat a hole into water. :)

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

See, this is where a 'basic' system comes in handy. Several folks have written up what they think a swashbuckler, archer, ect should be according to the C&C baseline. AFAIK, there hasn't been one written up for the CKG yet. Most of the C&C variants are fan work at this point (Not knocking the...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

In the players guide thats left up to the CK and the player to determine. The choice of primes does essentially effect most what you suggest. Much more detailed 'rules options' for CK's to include into their campaigns along the lines of 'what can be done with the seige engine' will be included...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Indeed Characters do. But Monsters aren't characters. They operate on their own system. Monsters AS characters is a subject likely to be addressed in one of the next two books though. So I imagine that the method for creating stats along those lines will be covered.

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Id say a more apt comparison would be between Basic (I assume Holmes/Moldov basic/expert?) and the C&C Boxed set. Which one is 'better' is purely subjective and I can't give a fair answer on that. But if your looking for a basis for system complexity comparison id say the C&C boxed set and OD&D...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Monsters have a Physical (STR DEX CON) and or Mental(INT WIS CHA) Prime. Sometimes its one or the other, sometimes its both. I suspect, in polymorph, if someone 'gains the physical attributes' that they are gaining the Physical Prime of the monster and rolls accordingly to the way monster rolls...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

I suppose the 'best way' to do anything is whatever suits? But I'll have a stab at this again. Monster's are centered around two types of primes Mental or Physical. So...if one gains the 'physical' traits of a monster when polymorphed one ony has to worry about one 'attribute'. That would be a...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

*chuckles* Look at the bright side. At least anyone interested is getting a real good look into the philosophical differences in the design of the game systems. :)

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Exactly. C&C's appeal clearly is to the second group of people. :)

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Still just a difference in desired game system detail. The Seige mechanic gives the ability to use background skills if needed. Its refered too as an 'attribute check'. One doesn't neccessarily need the level of detail of having 'specific' skills, like investigator, ect, listed on the sheet...
