    "Epic" progression after 6th level

Glad to see you're still working on this and that you've had such success with it. Our group finally got around to getting a real campaign going... We're going through the Shackled City with Core plus Arcana Evolved and the Complete books... And, the one thing that I'm noticing is that our...

Which level cap do you prefer?

This idea sounds good, too. Keep the slots, but only allow actual spells of third level or lower... possibly with metamagic. Very good. This would work well with spell points, too. Just more spell points at levels above sixth instead of 4th (or higher) level spells.

Which level cap do you prefer?

Thanks, Rycanada. I actually think that by doing it this way, you could even cap the overall level at 12th without too much trouble. The other ideas that have been suggested that I like are changing the XP requirements for each level and perhaps the idea about using the D20 Modern spellcasting...

Which level cap do you prefer?

What about redesigning the spellcasting classes with the 10 level cap? A cleric, for instance, is often played as a divine spellcasting warrior. Why not combine the benefits of the fighter and the cleric into one class somehow? Almost as if the cleric were taking every other level in fighter...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I (the OP) agree. The breakdown I'm really considering using, now, would put your Druid as a +1 LA and your rogue at a +2 LA (though just barely). +0 < 43 +1 >= 43 +2 >= 69 +3 >= 105 105 would be about the level of scores that might have been expected in the old Dark Sun campaign setting...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I actually like this idea quite well, Knight Isa. One reason is that I can see it encouraging players to raise their PC's lower scores rather than their higher scores. The only drawback for some might be in determining the point buy value for scores over 18.

Selectable saves. I would like some imput, please.

I like the idea, Mirivor. I'd might use it at some point.

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I've been thinking about keeping the point buy for ability score increases at higher levels, too. Instead of saying that a character gets +1 to any stat at every fourth level, why not award them 1 or more points every level? Thanks for the post!

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

Thanks for posting those links, Dagredhel! I liked those ideas. I agree with this idea. Letting the players substitute ability score increases for feats and vice versa is a good idea. Interesting...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

Thanks, Michael. Good! I hope it works well for you. Let me know how it goes, if you can, and what points per level adjustment you use. I tend to agree, Michael. After giving it some more thought, too many level adjustments could be a bad thing. I try to avoid allowing those, but I've got one...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

Hi, Comrade Raoul. Thanks for the input. After giving this more thought, I tend to agree with Nyaricus (above) who said that my level adjustments were too high. Here's why: The raw adjustment between the standard array and the elite array is +9 to the raw scores. This equates to +10 points...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I agree, Crothian. I've been thinking about how some orcs with higher scores faired in battle a while back and how their scores impacted the battle. It was considerably harder for the PC's to deal with them. This is also part of the reason why I need a good system of determining how much...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I don't know exactly where a character with these stats would fall. I do know that four such characters at least able to take on CR3 and some CR4 monsters at first level. I guess the thing to do would be to run some test fights to test the CR of such a character. Like I wrote above, this...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

Thanks for the welcome. I do hope to post around here some and to learn some. I played mostly AD&D before third edition and haven't really played that much third edition, yet. But, I do like the 3E/3.5E rules a bit better than AD&D. Back in AD&D we used a variant from the original Unearthed...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

Thanks for the Reply, Conaill Thanks, Conaill. I can appreciate the warning on this. This is part of the reason for the higher level adjustment. A character with such higher starting scores might not have to work as hard since things just come naturally to him/her, so they gain less experience...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I might have to revise it a bit, but an 80 point buy can purchase the following set of abilities: 18 18 18 18 16 14 This seems to be a significant power boost over the elite array (25 point buy). Thanks for the input, Nyaricus. That is one option, but knowing my players, it wouldn't...

Point Buy Variant: Level Adjustment Variant

I'm thinking of using a variant I thought of a couple of days ago in our next campaign for character creation. My players usually like to play characters with extremely high scores. Basically, what I want to do is encourage players to play characters with lower ability scores than they are...

    I want to see D20 <fill-in-the-blank> [Thread from 2002]

Death Dealer This would be my pick, too. I re-read Prisoner of the Horned Helmet, recently, and coundn't help but wonder if the yuan-ti are based on some of the critters in Gath's world.
