The Hexblade (Essentials Warlock) is up!

Two things I really like about the devil. 1) the aura of intimidation - totally a fluff thing, but given crunchy backup. 2) the fact that they are forced to serve out of fear, and that you (usually) summon the same devil who will have a grudge. Small things but they should provide lots of fun...

The Hexblade (Essentials Warlock) is up!

You really enjoyed your time as Bieber? Either way, I like the new warlock. Simple and straight to the point while retaining flavor. I love how they made special pactblades for the warlock, so that the choice of pact isn't decided by how much damage you want to deal - my guess is that the pact...

    Slayer build sillyness

I am not argue that how your feel is wrong, but you keep saying the fighter could only be built as a defender in 4e. What does it matter what role it has, when it in fact performs just like you want? Because, as has been mentioned before, the greatweapon fighter from core 4e could easily be...

Elder Red Dragon preview is up

    Essentials are melee heavy

Hello Mr. Positive Let me clarify a couple of things. 1) one of two ranger builds are ranged 2) the cavalier IS a horseman, he just doesn't get his bonded mount until level 4. Chris

Elder Red Dragon preview is up

It changed between MM1 and MM2 In MM1, the only limit was no AP during the surprise round. In MM2, there is no mention of AP's during the surprise round, but the 1/round limitation is there.

Are Essentials more old school or just a clever marketing ploy?

I was wondering how long it would take one of you guys to show up. ;) You will find that my use of oldschool was used to juxtapose the E-line with Core to determine whether there was a significant change in feel. It might not match your oldschool idea of dnd, but it could still feel more like...

    Ranger: Scout Preview up!

    Ranger: Scout Preview up!

I am always right, just check my postcount (lame inside joke)... Jokes aside, I think it's an oversight. I doubt they do not want them to be able to use the two powers together.

New Monsters damage et al driving me insane.

its not 50% of what it is listed as - its +25%-+50% of its at-will damage. So, a level 7 brute should do level +8 (=15) * 1.25= 18.75 (19) damage with at-wills. Its encounter power should do from 19*1.25 (24) to 19*1.50 (28) damage.

Are Essentials more old school or just a clever marketing ploy?

Sorry that I melted your brain, that was not my intent. I just want to clear up that I do understand "the other side", I was after all part of it for a long time. It's only lately that I have begun to realize some of the things I have stated in my other posts. Of course, it could just be what...

    Essentials more suitable for children?

If you are referring to the Red Box, yeah, I would definitely say it is more suited than the original starter set. Sadly I still think my own daughter is too young, otherwise I would happily test it on her.

    New web-based content?

Yep, works fine here as well.

    New web-based content?

Actually it's not a rumor that something is coming, that has been confirmed. As to when, all we know is that we should be told more "soon". Of course, my kids are glad I do not have the same definition of soon as WotC - or I would never get around cooking food for them ;)

    DM's Kit?

Not really. Myself, I just bought it to own it... I really need to stop doing that. The two adventures seem (from a very quick read-through) decent or perhaps better than that. While not literally sandbox-esque, they definitely have less railroading than we have been used to from WotC. Also...

Are Essentials more old school or just a clever marketing ploy?

Aye, you might have a point there as well. I noticed the contrast quickly, as one of my players commented on it, but blew it off, saying that combat and the rest of the game have always been separated (we have been using a grid of some sort since '89). But looking back, it definitely might have...

It's Almost the Season for WOTC layoff!

I am astounded that the mods let this stay open. It's just poor taste. It's fine to discuss the practice itself, but: this doesn't belong on ENworld, IMNSHO.

Are Essentials more old school or just a clever marketing ploy?

First of all, thanks for getting this thread back on track. Second of all, thanks for putting into words something I have been struggling to do. I do actually think you are right. Core 4e is this "surface" game. I however was very happy with it, because I always believed it wouldn't matter...
