    What Makes Your Homebrew Great?

Okay, what is the best adventure highlight that your Fairlane produced? Tell me some story of one session that was truly amazing and that you will always remember. I realize there are advantages to a homebrew, but what I'm really curious about is does it produce a better end product.

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

Well here is my personal experience. The best campaign I played in was a homebrew, because the individual was particuraly talented. However, the typical homebrew I've played in seems to be fairly devoid of asthetic detail, more simplistic, less imaginative, and you can see the plot coming from...

    What Makes Your Homebrew Great?

Let's hear those details. I realize there may be some advantages to homebrewing, just like there may be some advantages with not homebrewing. However, what are some specific examples of how your setting or adventure is better than some of the published setting or adventures out there.

    What Makes Your Homebrew Great?

I've heard a lot of homebrew DMs over the years indicate that they can do a better job than the published adventures out there. I have only had the privilege to play in the game of one homebrew DM who was truly great. I'm really interested in hearing about other homebrew games that are great...

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

Anyone can slap together a homebrew and there is nothing to ensure any level of quality, so you are really only going to get the product of the GMs skill. I would say that most GMs out there aren't as good as they think they are. For a published adventure there tends to be a higher level of...

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

I think that is entirely the problem. In my experience most homebrew GMs think they can put together a better gaming experience than if they used a module, but I've only seen one guy that could actually pull it off. Most of the homebrew games I have sat in have ranged from marginal to...

What do you look for when you purchase an Adventure Module?

They're usually a good, quick proxy for overall module quality. If the maps suck then probably the rest of the module will suck too. It helps to show how much forethought the designer's have put into how things make sense.

What do you look for when you purchase an Adventure Module?

Unique Texture - Ambience and setting descriptions that strike me as memorable and unlike anything I've come across before. It is important the atmosphere not be generic. A good example of this is I3 Pharoah from 1st edition. Instead of a generic pyramid things like the maze of disorienting...

Looking for a "good" module drama-wise (maybe 2E?)

Try the Longest Night by Privateer Press. It has a fairly dynamic plot with a lot of surprises to keep the party guessing. NPCs are interesting and multidimensional. Finally, the villian is more of the sympathetic variety... not wholly evil but more misguided.

    DnD 5e: Ready?

Hey... don't being giving anyone any ideas, okay? The more you guys talk about 5e the more likely it is going to happen.

    We made the DM cry...

Hmmm... sounds like your problem and a lot of the problem with player's option books in general have been identified right there.

    D&D 4E DnD 4E DOA?

Or some might call them influentials... http://www.nopworld.com/news.asp?go=news_item&key=41 There are at least more than a few people here that are well-known in the rpg community.

    Polyhedron has returned

Good news. While I wasn't fond of having it in Dungeon, it is great to here that it is living on in another format.

    D&D 4E DnD 4E DOA?

It's by no means as popular as it was during it's 2nd edition heyday.

    D&D 4E DnD 4E DOA?

There are certain PR companies that are paid to get threads started as if they were customers in an attempt to steer the conversation to a company's purposes. Call me a conspiracy buff... but I sure have seen a lot of threads about 4th edition lately. I think we could all learn something from...

D&D 4E WotC better fix Wildshape in 4E...

What's all this talk of 4th edition? I think the potential for something to get messed up in a new edition outweighs a couple minor tweaks like wildshape. Plus, I really wouldn't want to have to buy yet another edition of the same books and watch the player base fragment any further.
