I really like this, and I, too, hope they never provide a map. I've ground the core assumptions of D&D to dust before and built up my own setting, but it'll be nice for once just to accept what work has already been done.

Note that only a small minority of gamers are going to want to have to go over to the computer and run a program that randomly rolls the characters' perception skills. Besides the Game Table, 4e is a completely tabletop affair.

Yeah, I like that the DM won't have to ask for a Spot check, instead using the 'passive' take 10 value; and only having the player roll when (s)he decides to actively look harder.

You know, not every race/class/feat/monster in core needs to have a place in Ravenloft, or any setting (save Eberron, perhaps, with its 'everything in D&D has a place' design goal). It's utterly incomprehensible to me that people would think this was the case.

I'm confused. People actually think the cover is cheesecake? My conception of cheesecake is more Betty Grable or Book of Erotic Fantasy, rather than female adventurers who (OMG!) have breasts. You know, pictures that are only there for titilation.
