    The Power of 5

I for one am finding this conversation fascinating from many angles, so I would ask that you not bow out, Malraux. It seems the concern is about the liquidity of wealth rather than wealth itself. Adventurers will always be wealthy, in the sense that their net worth is extremely high compared...

D&D 4E The Quest to use the Half-Elf's Dilettante (4e spoilers)

Well, doing a quick-and-dirty analysis of Careful Strike with a +2 to hit vs. a basic attack.... it's not looking pretty for the at-will power team. Assumptions: Dex of +3 A 20 always hits, and always crits. A 1 always misses. Weapon is a Longbow, d10 damage. Hunter's Quarry gives a d6 extra...

    Am I "that guy" now?

While I wouldn't necessarily hold it against anyone who just passed on by, you did the right thing. Ethics is not nearly as difficult a subject as people would lead you to think. ;)

Torrent throwdown on the Wizards board

In a related instance, anyone who is active online with Magic the Gathering and was around, say, a year before Time Spiral came out knows that a certain website gained access to beta versions of some cards from Time Spiral. Due to their nature, WotC sued the person who released the information...

    Halflings?

Well, ki11er, I think empirical evidence so far shows that halflings are excellent Strikers and Defenders. I would think that you have the onus of proving that they don't. As for other races with 'negatives without attending positives'....? Humans: Only get one bonus stat. Sure, you can have...

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

Re: reused art, I would be willing to bet any money that the only reason it's reused is that the new art submitted was not accepted.

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

Cool stuff, all. The question I have regarding the Warlock powers is: If a Warlock power says it is associated with a given Pact, do you need to have that pact to pick the power? E.g., if I'm a Star pact Warlock, can I choose Infernal pact powers? Looking forward to hearing more. :)

Clerics need a wis of 20.

Amakar, I'd also point out that if you have a character in need of healing that requires a touch (CLW springs to mind), and that character is in the middle of a zone of difficult terrain, an Elven Cleric gets there much more easily.

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

I'm actually surprised that some people have issues with half-elves. Consider the following: Eladrin - Galadriel. As a Noldor and the niece (or was it grand-niece?) of Feanor, she definitely would be an eladrin in D&D terms, not an Elf. Elf - Legolas... sort of. Legolas, while a Prince...

    KOTS: The After Action Report

Well, jeez, maybe I should call myself a 'Lizard fanboy'. ;) Excellent review. Anyone comprehending what you wrote and calling it biased is IMO simply revealing their own bias. It seems like you and your players are 'going up the learning curve' and doing quite well by it. I hope that I will...

Clerics need a wis of 20.

Ginnel: Since the Holy Symbol is an Implement, just as much as a Wand, Staff, or Orb is, it's a 90% probability that you will see +X Holy Symbols in 4E. The concern is where you'll find them, of course. Phil: While I see how you could make a 3.X Cleric with rather low Wisdom, I never did. You...

KoTS - Kobold Slinger Drops [Possible Spoiler]

Vendor trash. If you note in the text, the bandoliers are in a gray font. Okay, all joking aside, I'm not exactly sure. I would think that they are for holding the specifal bullets, to give the idea that there is a limited supply of them and show that they are 'ready to fire'.

    The Arms Race of Races

Well, fire was the elemental damage type of choice in previous editions. Of the Wizard spells we've seen thus far in 4E, I can't think of a single Fire spell that isn't AoE in nature. (The three I can think of are Flame Burst, Fireball, and that fire-ice spell in the teens.) Really, the issue...

    The Arms Race of Races

I must agree that Mal seems to have hit on one of the best ways to use a Tiefling. Generate as many attack rolls as possible on a single target. Don't mind as much about AoE fire damage incoming, because it will barely affect you. Perhaps allowing the player to select a damage type for his...

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Re: The Tiefling's attack modifier, are people including the +1 attack bonus Rogues get with Daggers...? That could explain the discrepancy, I think.

    Dragonshield Tactics

Hm. Maybe they could have used a better term in the description of the ability... or, at least, a term that didn't have a reserved meaning... :p Like 'enter'.

D&D 4E The "Yay we're finally getting to play 4e!" thread

I'm happy for everyone here. I was just unceremoniously ejected from my gaming group, so I have no 4E in my future right now. Ah well.

    Zombie Minions are too weak

I think it's also the immunity issue. As someone pointed out, these minions are completely immune to any Poison-based powers, including AoE powers. I don't know how they're used, but consider that they can be placed as the anvil to a Poison Fume trap's hammer. The Goblin minions would simply...

Monster groups, simultaneous actions, and tactical movement

For me (and my players), I think that the method I use should be determined by the type of monster. Gnolls, while they can work together, just don't seem organized enough to me to pull off such coordinated tactics. Thus, option 1) would apply. OTOH, Hobgoblins? Definitely attack like option...

    D&D 4E I may have had a 4e epiphany...

Also, Saitou, if those ranges exist, what better way to sell the MM to those who make all of their own monsters than putting that data in the MM itself? Get those rules, and by inspection all of the various 'categorized exceptions' in there as well.
