    [September] What are you reading?

Finishing up Kage Baker's Dark Mondays, a great anthology. There are some really fun short stories in here (such as the Lovecraftian Calamari Curls) and a nice pirate novella about Captain Morgan and his attack on Panama. And I've started Vellum, by Hal Duncan. Ho-Lee Crap! I haven't been this...

    I'm Running 1e!!!

Its a blast isn't it? Its nice to NOT be so involved in your PC that you think its fun when he dies ! I ran a Desert of Desolation game where I had my three players make two PCs each, so they could soak the casulaties. Great fun!

    Dragonstar :: what happened?

I never got to play Dragonstar but I would have loved to. I think it would make a great one-shot at a con. I picked up Arsenal and Factory by Perpetrated Press (not official Dragonstar products but close enough) and I thought they were great! I'd love to use stuff from these books in a game!

Would you use or allow average damage to speed up gameplay?

I kind of informally did this in my high level game. Usually with area attacks. Big fireballs and dragon breath attacks from NPCs usually did average damage unless I just felt like rolling a big buncha dice. I'm sure if we had played much longer in that campaign, I would have gone your route...

    How do I roleplay 'creepy?'

This is awesome. Silence really freaks people out. It messes up all the normal social queues that tell you when it's your turn to talk or if your listener is interested in what you are saying. You can also always look people right in the eye. Hold your gaze right on their eyes while they are...

    WotC Podcast

I listened to this on the way in to work this morning. I'll have to check out those dungeon tiles! Here are some suggestions: * Keep it 30-45 minutes at most. That's how long my commute is ;) * I know you'll want to pimp new WotC products and that's cool, but keep it to a minimum. This...

What Old TV Show or Movie will be Updated with CGI Next?

Maybe we should do another thread of modern movies with lots of CGI that should be redone with crappy Star Trek/Doctor Who special effects...

What Old TV Show or Movie will be Updated with CGI Next?

You, my friend, are a genius. Oh hold on: Dick York, Dick Sergeant, Sergeant York... Wow, thats weird! Booya. Yeah, a digital Yoda. But a digital Yoda, that eats cats! Is it bad that I once had a pack of Alf trading cards?

What Old TV Show or Movie will be Updated with CGI Next?

Reading that Star Trek thread got me thinking: what will they try to update next? Scoobie Doo: New and improved animation that shows the kids from Scooby Doo actually walking rather than just moving up and down! Tom Baker Doctor Who: New CGI techniques remove blemishes and bad teeth and clean...

Monte Cook's Design Thoughts On Spellcasters

Nice. This is cool. It's even more Vance-ish. Even those uber wizards could only carry a few spells in their head. In addition, it solves another high-level annoyance: figuring spells for high level spellcasters. You can't do that on the fly--you have to just fake it. And I totally agree that a...

Monte Cook's Design Thoughts On Spellcasters

I love the idea that a character can only have so many spell effects on them at a time. This was the biggest pain for my higher level games--keeping track of all the bonuses and effects. But I would not put a hard number on it. I would make some kind of spellcasting check with a cumulative...

    What Sterotypes do you hate?

My wife pointed this one out to me: The Disney Stereotype of having one or both parents killed off in their movies. What could be more disturbing to a little kid than learning the mortality of their parents? Especially in an otherwise cute movie!

    Favorite Video Game Weapon!!!

The Halo sticky grenades! How fun was it to drop one on a grunt and watch it run in terror back to its buddies hiding in cover!? The Halo needler was cool too. I love homing projectiles. Add to that Force Push in the Jedi Knight series. Ok, its not really a weapon. But with all of those Star...

Guess the McGuffin in Indy IV!

I heartily agree. Leave it alone! I'm so tired of Hollywood's rehashing phase. Lets get back to original stories.

Guess the McGuffin in Indy IV!

One of the adventures we ran with that old Indiana Jones RPG (remember that?) was: Some Nazis accidently stole Indy's hat and he had to go on a world-wide adventure to get it back. That's my vote: Indy's Hat.

    Logans Run: Worth Watching?

I have only two things to add. It has Basil Exposition in it. And it has a teleportation chamber that is used to facilitate random "hook-ups", if you know what I mean. Its like if you combined booty calls and channel surfing. You got to love the 70's.

Guess the McGuffin in Indy IV!

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=37587 Damn you, Lucas! How many childhood fantasies do you have to destroy for me! All that aside, what do you think the McGuffin is? In that article, Lucas claims to have come up with something that was to edgy for Spielberg and Ford...
