board game recommendations sought for GenCon demoing!

He gets that a lot. We love sending him Family Guy clips from youtube. He actually has a signed photo of Burt Ward as Robin. When the guy asked him who to make it out to and Adam told him, Robin got pissed thinking he was making fun of him.

Statesville NC What can folks tell me about the area?

Holy crap! Blast from the past! A friend and I were trapped in Statesville for two days in the blizzard of 1993 coming back from Wilmington on Spring Break. Everything was closed and we were bored out of our skulls. So we spent our time watching The Empire Strikes Back and hotel...

    Does anyone else miss Avatar?

Mako was one of my favorite actors. He's half the reason I like the Conan movies so much. "Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!"

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

I miss crazy dungeon features like altars that grant you a free magic item or swallow your character's soul based on a random die roll. I miss "name level". I miss the the days when players didn't back talk--The DM was always right. Sheesh! Players these days! Most of all I miss the expedition...

Whoa. I think it's safe to say that Season 3 will kick all kinds of ass.

    Indianapolis Gamer seeking Group

My regular game group is no more and I'm looking to play again after GMing for so long. I'm willing to play just about anything and I'm available on week nights mostly, but occasionally available on the weekends. I've been playing RPGs in some form or another since the early 80s. I play for fun...

    Tips for an Expectant Father

I'll second the sling idea. We had one for each kid and it was great. In the early days, the baby will just sleep in there and you can pretend for a little while that you still have your old, pre-kid lives by going out to eat and stuff. Plus its a great for discrete nursing.

August - What are you reading?

I had to read that in high school and I loved it. I would love to see it performed as a play, although there was an ok movie version of it made. I just finished the last Harry Potter book and for work, I'm slowly working through xUnit Test Patterns by G. Meszaros and Beautiful Code edited by A...

    Tips for an Expectant Father

Here's some stuff we did: Get as much sleep as possible before the baby comes. Its the last sleep you are going to get for WEEKS! If mom is breastfeeding, give her tons of support. Its probably better outside the US, but here there is almost zero support for breastfeeding mothers--especially...

help me brainstorm for my new military/horror campaign

I'm running a savage worlds game at Gen Con where a squad of US Rangers are sent into a suspected WMD site in Iraq in 2003 only to find out that the Iraqis have been meddling in things Man Was Not Meant to Know and the site is now overrun with Unspeakable Horrors. You might start out with a...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

I think the big influence on 3rd edition is Magic the Gathering. Simplifying bonuses to named bonuses and the rules that define when they stack as well as well-defined conditions smells a lot like collectible card games. Not that I'm slamming on these innovations, I think they make the game...

Good but obscure movies you've recently discovered...

I just got this from Netflix and was going to suggest it here. Fun movie that's inspiring me to make up a one-session game that's somewhere between board game and rpg.

    Round Robin GM'ing (D&D 3.5) - Thursday 8 to midnight == 1 SLOT LEFT! ==

That's too bad, man! Although this gives me an excuse to bail and go attend the Zombie Walk .

Desert of Desolation series - individual modules or mega-adventure

These adventures are a blast. I ran the first one using AD&D as part of a Back to Old School period in my game group. They are fun just for the freaky dungeons. See if you can find the eternally-falling mummy.

Make a Character for Every Game You Own

I started this personal challenge on my blog and later posted to rpg.net . I thought folks here might like to join in or see some the characters that are being made. It's an excellent way to revisit those old dusty games you've had for years or the ones you bought but never played.

board game recommendations sought for GenCon demoing!

If you can find my friend and co-worker Adam West, you can try out his game Galactic Emperor. He's gonna try to make a go of it. He's got manufacturing and distributing all lined up and he's just now deciding if he wants to take the plunge and actually invest in a print run. I've played it...

Who else has Greg Stolze's "Reign"?

I'm planning on getting a copy of this at Gen Con. I've heard a lot of good things about it on rpg.net. I love the company idea. That would be a good part to steal for any game.

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

I can echo everything SavageRobby said above. I had the same experience. My friends and I started a regular game group back up when D&D 3rd edition came out. We played that same campaign until just last year. The PCs had reached about 15th level. Each session became a bookkeeping nightmare and...
