Nope. DA2 has most battles being 3 waves. When you kill enough (or maybe just the right?) opponents the next wave literary drops in from the sky. On the PC it is blatantly obvious (you see them dropping) and there simply is no tactic to avoid it. Running to a corner of the field will help...
