    N.O.W. Wishlist!

While it may not be appropriate for all the audiences the book's written for, I'd love to see content to assist some of the grittier parts of pulp fiction/exploitative fiction, such as basic rules for drugs and solicitation. The book needs to stay appropriate for all it's potential audience so I...

    Some new O.L.D. races

I have a couple races and a bunch of traditions that I'm currently polishing off but they won't be put in the database until the play tests have finished. This is for two reasons: 1) It's pointless to publish third party content for an unfinished game (assuming that game's development wasn't...

    Magic Combat Tricks

I don't understand the issue though. They're not even that expensive. Go raze a small village of 100 peasent farmers and you can afford the most expensive combat trick. For my group they've really enjoyed playing around with the different combat tricks. They give fighters a bit of versatility...

A couple rhetorical questions about spellcasting

You're reading that correctly, however a noncaster needs an INT 5 to cast that spell (into equal to MP) which gives him 3 dice with an average 10.5 roll anyways. A spellcaster just needs a Magic stat of 1 and the ability to make that check (possibly by using skills and high quality tools).

    Magic Combat Tricks

I have to agree. I've been playing D&D for quite a few years and only very recently started thinking about combat maneuvers (particularly trip and overrun >:) ). I think part of the problem is that there are *way* too many options if everyone has everything. Its easier just to go "I hit him...

    The N.O.W. Discussion Thread

Yeah. I would never expect anyone to become neo. But small abilities at the cost of some regular strength would be cool. I think there'd even be room for some nonphysical powers too, like "breath" weapon spiderweb cones or ability to shoot eye lasers. You'd essentially be trading some of your...

Possibility for N.O.W.'s equivalent to magic and psionics... Superpowers? WOIN's equivalent to adepts in shadowrun and monks/ninjas/dragon shaman in D&D.

A couple issues noticed while building characters

My little sister was interested in what I've been talking about, so I showed her the playtest documents, and we built a couple characters together. While we were running through it we came across a couple things that didn't pop up before: --- 1) Minimum Attributes: The rule under traditions...

    Character creation (traditions)

I have to agree. I'd much rather see you change those two classes to Heal Life and just remove the creature targets than remove the element targets, it simplifies the spell list without the need to simplify the rules for it. That being said, it might not be good for balance. I don't know how...

    Character creation (traditions)

Well wherever it is there's an issue somewhere. The cleric and ranger traditions give heal animal, the page about heal says only virtues and elements are valid targets, and the chart shows everything as valid targets for heal.

    Character creation (traditions)

On the grand unifying spell list chart (in another post) he listed virtues, creatures, and elements all as valid targets for heal so I think that's an error on page 110. He may have already fixed in his copy, because he hasn't commented on it in any of the other threads that mention it. With...

    Magic Combat Tricks

I was reading over the section for combat tricks, and was wondering, "Are magic attacks a valid situation for combat tricks"? Obviously the general situation tricks like roll-with-it and quickmount can benefit a mage, but I was wondering if "Magic Only Combat Tricks" would deserve a section with...

    The Grand Elemental Chart

I've started to take a look at it but it's harder than it seems. The Good and Evil virtues were easy but I'm struggling with the rest. Also I noticed something that might be a bit off with the table. The Virtues section of the current playtest lists Free-Willed as a viable virtue for spells...

    O.L.D. & N.E.W. Errata Thread

Based on the sample weapons it's applied to both in the current playtest document pre-errata. It's possible that this may change with the new system but I wouldn't think so. If left as it is it'd make more sense; a weapon made via a superior method would be easier to wield (attack bonus), would...

    Traditions / Careers

I look at the names of traditions being generic titles that get refluffed based on the character, unlike a system like D&D where you're given a starting fluff that you're guided into building your character towards. Just as the mage tradition says that they're sometimes known as sorcerers...

A couple rhetorical questions about spellcasting

My apologies . I read the header and assumed it was replacing the current rules for dealing with spellbooks. I should have asked that instead of jumping to conclusions. [edit] Just got back into town. I had thought the header matched with the section from the playtest document, but now that I...

A couple rhetorical questions about spellcasting

Which is precisely why I don't understand it. Why would you strip away an option that gives spellcasters some versatility, even if to give that versatility to someone else... [Edit] I'm sorry. I guess this probably comes off as whiny. I don't have a problem with you using the new system in...
