Classes: You're designing the next PHB, and...

Hypotheticaly, I'd want three core classes: Fighter, Rogue and Warlock that go up to 15 levels. All other classes are either advanced classes (16th - 30th levels), specialist classes which you need no prerequisites for (cleric, illusionist, shapechanger) or prestige classes. It will never...

Dice Survivor, Finale: d6 vs. d20

    Attacks, saves, skills, percentile...is there anything the d20 can't do? Bye-bye d6.

Do you run monsters straight from the MM?

Depends upon how much time I have to prepare...I will increase or lower a creature's power level at will, as long as I feel that creature has the feel that I want for the encounter. That feel is more important to me than the HD or CR or even the beasties abilities.

How much would you pay for a PDF?

I'd like to pay no more than 50% of the print price...but depending upon the goodies inside, I would probably pay up to 75%. Anything past this and I can't justify it.

    What Makes Your Homebrew Great?

It's not. I have fun with it, my players have fun with it, and everything else is just details.

    Have we lost the dungeon?

Could be because it's easier to (attempt to) write fluff than it is to write crunch???

    Do you house rule teleport?

In my world: Teleport can only work between teleport circles, which are normally permanent runes set up in various important places (guilds, king's estates, etc.) But they are not always permanent, as spellcasters can inscribe these runes, which takes an hour to complete but it willl last for...

    By the power of greyskull!

Do a search on google for d20 and He-Man, and you will find a really good thread from the wizards website (d20 fantasy think-tank) on just this subject.

Monster Manual II and III: Both worth getting?

The MM3 was my favorite book outside the core rules. Errata like insano, but has ton'o'ideas for my game style.

    Surprisingly Useful Spells

The message spell. In my last campaign, in every game, almost every encounter the conjurer cast the spell for privacy and planning.

If you love something, let it go...

ForceUser, I feel horrible for you. I recently ended a great campaign but for completely different (and positive) reasons. I had known only two of them before the group began, and now I have five damn fine friends. I'm one of the damn lucky ones...you got the opposite side of the coin toss. Is...

3.5 Stat Blocks Kill my creativity

Another idea is to create your own standard classes for levels between 1-10. Then when you need something, add the calculated statistics (atk, grapple, saves, feats and skills) to a racial, monster or prestige class "template", then adjust as needed. This works really well, as all of those...

    Campaign Ideas Needed

It is one of many direct conduits to the astral planes / heavens that are located through-out my homebrew world. Most are controlled by the various faiths as shrines. In this region, rather than having dozens of them over thousands of miles, there is only one but it is titantic in both size and...

    Campaign Ideas Needed

A few weeks ago I just ended my campaign, and now I am slowly working on ideas for a new one which I hope to start sometime in July. I know the mood I want to conjure, as well as most of the people and the politics in the region, but I'd like to get some ideas from the masters here at ENW. This...

What should the next "Monster Type" book from WotC be?

The Book of Wonderous Wonders...a treatise on fey would be great.

What would the ideal d20 magic system be like?

I don't know about "ideal" but the best I've seen in a long time is the Black Company system, as it enables the caster to do pretty much anything they can imagine without overpowering the other aspects of the game and combat. It really encourages creativity and actively shaping the effects...

    Magic vs Magic

Here's a homebrew rule I've started using for when spellcasters attempt to break, negate or dispel a permanent magical spell effect. Please let me know what you all think and if it's too hard or pointless. -------------------------------------------- Magic vs Permanent Magic When magic is...

What was the first monster you killed in D&D?

Ogre...I was a dwarf with a high strength and pummeled him with my fists, can't remember what had happened to my weapon.
