How does the GSL affect me?

I think that's the reality for most D&D players. I know for certain that most individuals I've played with barely knew much about WotCs own products let alone 3pp. I know that's fairly anecdotal, but that is the general attitude of most long-time RPG players in the real world. They know about...

How does the GSL affect me?

Do no try to define what is D&D. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. There is no D&D!

Dave Arneson Retiring from Full Sail

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dave Arneson's retirement from Full Sail.

    Counter Collection Digital and printing?

Just as another option to consider, using your counters with a VTT such as MapTool is even easier. Drag and drop a counter directly onto the map, label it appropriately, and copy and paste as many as you need (the software will automatically number the counters). The great thing about a VTT for...

    Counter Collection Digital and printing?

Some word processing applications have a grid feature that allows you to snap images to it. Try that. I use that in MS Word. The great thing about the grid is that you can size the grid to whatever preset unit you want. I use 1 inch grid. Resizing the counters to large, huge, etc., in this set...

Are we just about done here?

You forget about the lack of DDI.

    Comprehensive WotC 3.5 Index ... ?

Good to know. I've never used them personally.

    Comprehensive WotC 3.5 Index ... ?

Crystal Keep should help as a resource, too, although it hasn't been updated since October 2007, and even then it wasn't current.

    Comprehensive WotC 3.5 Index ... ?

You might want to start with WotC's Consolidated Lists.

    WotC Site Post 4E Release

You've got this all wrong. MasterTools, including the character generator in the 3.0 PHB was always outsourced by Fluid. Fluid scrapped MasterTools and released E-Tools. E-Tools was crap, and the relationship between Fluid and WotC ended. Months later, CMP and WotC made an arrangement in which...

    D&D compendium

The Compendium is not a copy of the books. It is only a database of character options such as races, classes, feats, powers, etc. with full text descriptions. The contents of the book themselves or rules that govern combat are not included. Thus it will be nothing like the 3.5 SRD. Think more...

    Beginner DND player Help

PS - Grab a copy of Dungeon Master's Guide II if you can afford it. There's some really solid advice throughout that book. It also has a sample town that you can use as a sort of base of operations.

    Beginner DND player Help

Honestly, just jump into it and don't worry about anything. Create a basic scenario (miners have gone missing; kobolds had taken over the mines; go find the miners and clear out the kobolds). Grab the monster manual and use the kobolds in there. Beyond that, it doesn't matter if you're doing...

    Wow... Encounters are quickly made.

That's great if you have 4 hours to spare. Not everyone does. Despite my frustration with having a large and nearly useless library of v3.5 books (with respect to 4e), some of which were purchased only 6 months ago, the faster prep time in 4e is the core reason for me to switch. Personally...

Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - How to get that feel in an RPG?

If you haven't already, read the Eberron Campaign Setting, particularly Chapter 9: An Eberron Campaign.

    Rules Database vs. Core Rulebooks

Yeah, I fully anticipate that. I guess my rationale was that the more DM-friendly 4e system and online tools would at least give me a fighting chance. ;) v3.5 is sooo much work for a DM that I'm pretty much assuming that it's not going to happen.

    Rules Database vs. Core Rulebooks

That's actually in the lead right now. The only compelling thing about 4e is the more streamlined rules and the availability of the online tools. Two of us (will) have kids, and so being able to hop online for a couple of hours without having to schedule something regularly and it seems prepping...

    Rules Database vs. Core Rulebooks

Yeah, my wife and I keep translating every $10 into an hour of babysitting. The core rulebooks and Keep on the Shadowfell equal 8 hours if purchased from Amazon, and about 13 hours at cover price. :)

    Rules Database vs. Core Rulebooks

Two reasons: 1. The cost of D&DI is easier to budget. 2. If D&DI covers the rules presented in the core rulebooks, then it's actually an even greater value given all of the other resources within D&DI, all of which I see value in and intend to use.
