    Firefox- What are the downsides?

I can't say I'm as impressed with Thunderbird as I am with Firefox. I've been using Pegasus Mail for about a decade now and it's got a couple of features I'd miss too much to switch.

    Firefox- What are the downsides?

I've been using it for a couple of months and the only thing I've really noticed is that it seems to "give up" faster than IE when you're trying to get to a site that's slow in responding. There may be a setting for the timeout, but I have not bothered to go looking for it yet.

    Iron Lore: Malhavoc's Surprise?

That bit about statting and 18th-level NPC in 5 to 15 minutes for any class is really appealing as that's one of the biggest time-sinks for me when running standard D&D.

    Battlestar Galactica {Spoiler Talk} 3/11/05

I've read that Moore wants to do a Pegasus episode, but hasn't decided how to do it yet. Perhaps 2nd season. If they do, I would love to see them bring back Dirk Benedict as Commander Caine. Perhaps a cigar chomping Caine. For maximum cheese factor, they need to include a scene where he...

Unexpected Moments You Pulled On Your DM

I had a DM once who prepared a large complex full of twisting passages with lots of encounters in them. We were supposed to slog through it looking for the McGuffin. I wasn't about to do this randomly and get lost, so I announced to the group that we were going to follow the "Right Hand Rule"...

    D&D 4E DnD 4E DOA?

I suspect we're about two and a half years from a new edition -- maybe a year and a half. I think a lot of it depends on the sales of core rules and 'generic' suppliments (like the "Races of ..." and "Complete ..." books). Once the sales on those start to run down, I think they're going to do...

    Battlestar Galactica {Spoiler Talk} 3/11/05

I don't think Starbuck was being shown as the best strategist here, or best anything else for that matter. Her plan was a tactical plan. The strategic plan was to go to this place and take it from the Cylons. The tactical plan is where you figure out the details. Military officers are...

    D&D 4E Hypothetical 4e Class List

Actually, I suspect they've already been doing that with UA and the race/class books. I think they've been floating ideas to see what people latch onto and those ideas are the ones that will probably make it into 4e in some form.

Which year did you start playing D&D

I can say 1984 with about 90% certainty based on my memories of other things going on at the time. It _could_ have been 1983, I suppose. Anyway, I can remember it was August and a couple of friends introduced me to something that vaguely resembled the game. It was so horribly modified (to...

A stick in the mud, a dinosaur?

Why do they have anime with names like "Bubblegum Crisis" (which, I understand, has nothing to do with bubblegum")? Likely someone in Japan decided it was cool and now we're stuck with swords the size of volvos. :) Edit: Added smiley to show I'm not really being terribly serious with this...

    D&D 4E Hypothetical 4e Class List

Actually, I doubt we'll be seeing much change from the list of classes that exist now except perhaps to add to it. They might tweak some of the classes but I doubt they'll get rid of any. About the only one that might not be safe, IMO, is the sorcerer. Since the sorcerer is new to 3e and not...

A stick in the mud, a dinosaur?

I don't much care for some of the new stuff that's out there, but I think that's a result of growing older. I look at stuff that's popular with the kids these days and think to myself that I could see myself really getting into it and thinking that was the coolest thing ever if I were their age...

Whisky for my men, beer for my horses!

I'm partial to this one, though a few words would need to be changed here and there to adapt it to a fantasy setting without guns, the title still works if you assume the "Big Iron" is a big sword. Big Iron Marty Robbins To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day Hardly spoke to...

    Stargate SG-1 {Spoiler Talk} 3.4.05

Frankly, as Atlantis villains go I have come to hate the Genai far more than the wraith. I keep hoping that the US will finally get the Prometheus to Atlantis and it will make a little side trip to teach the Genai a lesson, preferably by taking their stargate so they will be permanently...

    Battlestar Galactica 2/25/05 SPOILERS!

You know, another thing occurs to me: One could make a case that Adama sending Starbuck to do this was also a way for him to let her know he still trusted her after she revealed her part in Zack's death a few weeks (to us) ago. I'm not saying that's the only reason he did it, but it might be a...

Take the GM out of the Equation- A 3e design philosophy

I think this is a key reason I dislike the "remove the GM" approach. Since 3e came out, a lot of players -- even those who used to play 2e/1e -- have gotten it in their head that the RAW is the supreme law of the game rather than the DM and a written rule should trump the DMs judgement. Some...

    GURPS vs. Harp

I don't have mine either, but didn't 3e also have a rule where piercing attacks against chainmail ignored most of the DR?

    "Blood for Odin!" Funny email

It isn't the only one I've heard related to the SCA. Another one went something like this: Three men who do "musketeer" types were walking down the street one evening after an SCA event still wearing full costume. As they are about to pass an alley, a couple of thugs step out with knives and...

    Battlestar Galactica 2/25/05 SPOILERS!

The skills don't coorelate as the "controls" are completely different. What I said was that the coordination and instincts required for both are equally applicable. By that I mean that I think Starbuck has a talent for figuring trajectories and a lot of physical coordination that would make it...

    "Blood for Odin!" Funny email

I heard a different version of this 10 or 15 years ago from an SCA member. It's been a while, so this might be a little fuzzy. Anyway, in that version the guy was supposedly jogging in Central Park wearing chainmail under his jogging suit because the weight would help him get into shape or...
