Just Figured Out How to Make Sure the Party imc Explores Every Room in the Dungeon

Yeah, I've never heard of this left hand stuff before. I've only ever heard of the Right Hand Rule. I avoided 90% of a DMs big maze that way once by following the right turns to the place we needed to be.

    Anyone playing NetHack?

I didn't play nethack much, but I had this game called "DND" in high school. I bet I could still dig up a disk somewhere if I really tried. It probably wouldn't be any good anymore though. (The disk, that is.) I seem to remember one of the dungeons was called "Telengard" or something like...

To anyone who has ever been in the military

I'm not a military person and have not been to Anapolis. I DID go to Texas A&M like Dr. Talos, but was not in the corps. Gaming on the same campus as a civilian, I noticed that the freshman cadets had no time go game, but as they advanced towards their senior year they gained more time. The...

    Arrrrgh

B-17 Bomber. When I was a kid I wanted an Intellivision so bad just so I could play that game. How about this: When I was 11, my father took me to the 1982 World Fair in Knoxville, TN. In the science and technology pavilion, there was a booth that had an Intellivision with the speech pack...

    Teenager's expressions...

Maybe not. For a couple of years there, I was convinced the whole 'leetspeak and IM abbreviation things were going to butcher the language with everyone using '4' instead of 'for' and things like that, but it never seems to have taken off. One thing I also remember from my teen years is that...

    Teenager's expressions...

    You think you're out of touch? I had to go look up 'wigger' on Google. Wait! I think you're supposed to say 'I had to google 'wigger', right? I'm so proud of myself for knowing that! {Rolls Eyes}

Indiana Jones: Who will the next actor be?

I was about to suggest that. It would nicely round things out. As for Brendan Fraiser, well, I'd rather he do more Mummy movies. I really liked those. Among other things, I especially liked the "Roll 'o' Guns" from the first movie and the "Trunk 'o' Guns" from the second. FINALLY, a...

    Mongoose New License

This is going to sound crazy, but who has the Everquest license and when is it up for renewal? That's pretty big. It's from Sony and the use of the terms 'faction' and especially 'vision' (a word often used by the developers at Sony) put me in mind of Everquest. There would be three versions...

    BOYCOTT of Wotc miniatures

I have not been buying these in the first place because of the random aspect. I'd be willing to pay $12.99 for a box if I knew what I was getting ahead of time, but I am not willing to pay $9.99 for a box if they're randomly packed and I have no idea what I'm getting.

    Handy Latin Phrases.

I came across these pages yesterday: http://www.ealasaid.com/quotes/latinser.html http://www.ealasaid.com/quotes/latinsil.html Some of my favorites: Sunt pueri pueri, pueri puerilia tractant. Boys are boys, and boys do boy-stuff. (ie, boys will be boys) -- The more things change... Nihil...

The Coming Of Conan the Cimmerian

What really blew me away is the dedication for the "Cimmeria" poem. He mentions the fog-shrouded hills above Fredericksburg as his inspiration for Cimmeria. Fredericksburg is my hometown and I have spent an awful lot of time in those very hills (often being inspired for my RPGs, in fact). I...

How "different" does a new setting have to be?

I think a big part of the problem is that everyone wants something different but, but what that "something" is turns out to be different for everyone. They don't want everything to change. That would make the setting too unfamiliar when they're looking for the familiar with just enough...

    Roman Gladius

In my Romans-with-the-serial-numbers-filed-off campaign I make normal gladii like your average recruit got count as short swords. The better quality weapons you would see in the hands of veterans who bought better, rich folks, gladiators and others with a better than baseline weapon I represent...

    Which D&D Novels to buy?

I'd also suggest the Arylin Moonblade Forgotten Realms books by Elaine Cunningham. I don't think there's anything inappropriate in there. There's a strong female main protagonist, action, G-rated romance and so on. I also liked the Wyvern's Spur trilogy. It's not very violent, has a male...

    Percentage of Gamers in Texas

I'm a Texan, born and raised. I currently live in San Antonio and I have a decent sized group here. I've also got a college friend who is a gamer living and gaming in the DFW area. When I was at A&M, there were plenty of gamers there. (Enough to support three gaming stores...)

Games that I just don't get

Yeah, but I've played a number of RTS games for more than two hours. I played the full version of Starcraft a whole bunch before I finally lost interest. The problem is that none of the RTS games they're coming out with these days seem to give me anything I didn't have and get sick of with...

Games that I just don't get

I don't get RTS Games either. I had fun with Starcraft for a while, but every one I've looked at since has seemed like exactly the same game. I can get an hour or two of enjoyment out of fooling around with them, but thats about it. I just can't understand why they are so incredibly popular.

Movies that I just don't get

I, also, don't get the whole mafia movie thing. Its a bunch of brutal, ill educated thugs. Ditto for the "urban thug" movies. The ones with a bunch of scumbags from some inner city strutting around "popping a cap" in someone or whatever. I do not understand the appeal of (faux-)reality TV...

    The new Battlestar

Ah, but that's the beauty of it. At first, he talks about using the guy as a scapegoat and the next thing you know, he's explaining to Tigh about how he took skin samples and analyzed them to look for the trace elements they found after the cremation of the Cylon from the station. They leave...
