4e rules will make some games much harder to run

Well, we've got the DDXP characters and a whole bunch of monsters. Has anyone tried running it without a map yet?

    D&D 4E Eberron: The Artificer in 4e...

I'm honestly wondering if the artificer is a strong enough concept to support an entire class on its own now. They might be better modeled as a Wizard/Rogue, or perhaps treated as a paragon path.

Armor & Coins - please, No.

There must be something wrong with me, because I find things like Astral Diamonds and Godplate to be awesome. Also, for those of you mourning the loss of masterwork armors, we've seen that a suit of +1 platemail with a pretty decent special ability is a 3rd level item. Is there any reason that...

5th Level Wizard Has 2 Daily And 2 Encounter Powers

That sounds right. I had a progression worked out at one point somewhere. I think in the wizard powers PHB pages thread.

Any New Info on Skill Encounters?

For the record, this kind of system isn't gamist at all. It is, in fact, a narrative system, which is probably why the simulationists are still reacting badly to it.

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

If the measure of a life is in hours of joy created, then we have indeed lost a great man. I remember the day when I was 10 years old and my best friend borrowed the Rules Cyclopedia from the library clear as crystal. I played an elf and fought some giant rats in a latrine before defeating a...

    D&D 4E Rob Heinsoo on 4E PHB

    Ooh. That would make sense.

Saving throws are a coin toss?

That's why a curse like that is a ritual, not something you throw off in a fight.

    m and Ms

m is a basic melee attack. This is what you use for Opportunity Attacks. M is a melee range special power. Same thing goes for r and R.

    Paladin Divine Challenge Fixed

The difference is that the close burst doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity, while a ranged one would.

    How big is the Jump?

Warlock Warlord Fighter Rogue/Wizard Cleric Seems like it'd fit close enough to me.

    Grick

What're the monsters on the other page? All I see is 11th level controller.

    D&D 4E AICN Massawyrm's 4E Review - Part 3

Well, the lack of metallics makes me kind of sad, but then I remembered that they have 14 pages in the MM devoted to dragons alone already. Not including them is clearly a space issue, not a design issue.

    D&DXP: 1st level class information

Fighter's HP is wrong. It's 15+Con. Wizard skills are also potentially wrong (he has Skill Training listed as a feat). Otherwise everything looks right.

    Monsters from Xanth's Pictures

Yeah. Mostly what I like is the opportunity to react. The bodak doesn't just look at you and poof, you're on the ground with no setup at all.

    Kobold Skirmisher

    Wait, which 6th level minion?
  17. Peter LaCara

    Kobold Skirmisher

I don't know why that would be. I mean, it's not significantly harder to write or run "HP 5" on a character sheet than "Dies in one hit." What's nice about doing it this way is that it scales. Those Legion Devil minions the Pit Fiend spawns? Those die in one hit, too. Granted, their defenses and...

    Monsters from Xanth's Pictures

It also means you really, really want a paladin or cleric along when you fight a bodak, since any radiant damage at all shuts down their ability to weaken. This is also more forgiving than "Save or Die" since I'm betting people have multiple ways to throw off conditions like weakened during...

    Kobold Skirmisher

Heh. Turns out minions literally die in one hit now. They don't even have hp. You hit them and they die.

DEX, Ref Defence, AC and Armour

Here's my theory on why the plate armor only granted +6 AC: It's on a halfling. We also saw that the Kobold Skirmisher, another small creature, gained a lesser bonus from hide armor than the ranger. So. I'm guessing small size provides a blanket bonus to defenses, but reduces the effectiveness...
