[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

In what way? I can see it now: DM: Okay Bob, the evil enchanter has just dominated you. You need three successful saves to end it. Your turn! Bob: Are you kidding me?! ...Okay, I've got a racial that grants me an extra save, and I can blow a daily for another one. Hey, Sally and Tim, can you...

[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

Yes, I'm aware of this quirk. There's some incentive to delay inflicting many conditions for the CA or OA-denial, but for the most part, the main effect of a condition happens during the target's turn. The notable exception is defense penalties, which do 99% of their shtick outside of the...

[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

Great minds think alike. In the case of my clone, I'm going the additional step of making [most] UENT conditions last only until the target's next turn. (If I don't change everything to save-endable, that is.) Thanks, I'm glad to hear it doesn't throw a wrench into anything. :)

[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

Wow...never thought of it this way. Even if I don't end up changing the golden standard, I'll be thinking about this with respect to daily and recharge powers!

[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

The 4e golden standard for durations is 'until end of next turn' for at-will and encounter powers, and (save ends) for recharge and daily powers. (There are exceptions, but that's the gist of it.) For my PoL clone, I'm considering making '(save ends)' the golden standard for at-will and...

    Future Support

For shame! Art always takes precedence over real life. ;) Well in that case, the Complete 4th Edition is mostly* a compilation of classic 4e character options, and Points of Light is the true-to-4e clone I'm working on. :) *With a few house rules for balance and smooth play.

    Future Support

Hi, Pour! I love your Fourth Party, wish I had the time to contribute. :( Are you looking for just adventure support, or 4e clones too? Because I'm working on the latter. :)

[Points of Light] A Few Name Changes

I don't think I'll be changing the power recovery rules, but I will be including a few 'official' house rules. What are your recharge rules?

I think it's because timely has one less syllable. ;)

[Points of Light] A Few Name Changes

Possible name change #2 is a remedy to the dissonance that some players have regarding encounter powers -- namely that an encounter is an undefined narrative amount of time, despite the defined 5 minute short rest period to recover encounter powers. And how it's weird to have these...

[Points of Light] A Few Name Changes

Possible name change #1 is a remedy to the dissonance that martial encounter/daily powers cause for some players. Edition war BS aside, I think the title 'martial' does tend to limit the imagination because it implies 'I'm just really good with my sword.' Some players have no problem with the...

[Points of Light] A Few Name Changes

I'm considering changing two naming conventions, and definitely adding one of my own, to my Points of Light clone. The definite addition is a new power type I'm using to define builds. Essentially these are channel divinity powers, expanded to all power sources. Except none of them are dinky...

    [Points of Light] Combat Styles

Abilities don't increase in PoL, so each multiple of [ability] is the same 2-3ish damage no matter what level a PC is. Weapon types: I tweaked the weapons types a bit, and added weapons of every size and shape into each type. For example, instead of light and heavy blades, PoL has straight and...

    [Points of Light] Combat Styles

Reaping Blade Style Associated Weapons: Crescent Blades Benefit: You deal 1[Charisma] ongoing damage (save ends) when you bloody an enemy. Level 11: 2[Charisma] extra damage. Level 21: 3[Charisma] extra damage. Giant Slayer Style Associated Weapons: Straight Blades Benefit: You deal...

    [Points of Light] Combat Styles

I’ve been agonizing over this new bit of class design, so I come to the community for critiquing! Here’s the deal: PoL will have four ki (aka martial) classes; instead of writing several builds into each class, I’m giving each ki class access to a pool of combat styles. It makes my design life...

[Points of Light Clone] Tweaking the Races

Well for what it's worth, that's exactly what genasi were originally, before FR hijacked them. In fact, I wasn't even aware that they have different fluff in FR.

    The Bar'ds Nuclear Option

Wow, ninjaed by BT and PF in the same thread...looks like 10 + 1/2 level + Cha is a popular idea. This seems like an odd statement. I get that it's your way of winning the high-level rock-paper-scissors game, but it's pretty inconsistent no? Unless you're also reducing xp rewards after the...

[Points of Light Clone] Tweaking the Races

Glad you like the dark-mirror-drow concept! That's not to say that there can't be drow in the underdark too, or that there can't be shadar-kai in the shadowfell. (I won't be officially including s-k in PoL, but a DM could port them over from 4e if he/she were inclined.) I've got plenty to do...

    The Bar'ds Nuclear Option

In addition to what MarkB points out, the fascinate text says that targets who see obvious threats (drawn weapons, finger-wiggling, etc.) automatically break free from the effect. (Though that still leaves a lot of opportunity for sneak-attack gankings.) As a DM you could change the DC to 10 +...

[Points of Light Clone] Tweaking the Races

This. Is. Brilliant. Literally! Hm, how about this idea: eladrin call the Feywild home, drow call the Shadowfell home. I know, it's a departure from tradition, but drow and eladrin are already pretty much opposites. This just makes it more explicit. And drow make perfect exemplars of the...
