Thanks for all of the suggestions! We usually stick just to the PHB and Complete series, but I may be able to talk the GM into some of these.

Why not take a level of Ranger instead?

I'd check out the Master Thrower PrC from C. War. It has some neat tricks that would work well with your idea. Also, the Cragtop Archer from Races of Stone might be appealing, although I don't think it's worth it (just gives a better range).
