Would you let your player do this?

If I were the DM, unless I had a really nifty side-retraining quest I'd just let them change up right away. Side-retraining quests could be fun but if it's just in there to go through the motions of retraining, I'd rather skip it and stick to the main story.

Would this be fair to the party? (My guys stay out, please)

I think it sounds completely fair and an interesting idea since it won't be killing the characters and is for story reasons. But I think Blargney (and others) made a great point that you should be flexible and have back up plots if they don't get captured. I think Shadowslayer made a good...

How to Make D&D Accessible to the Non-Mathematically Inclined?

That's true, it all comes down to what will let the player's have more fun. We had a player who always had trouble with the math (figuring modifiers really, not the arithmetic) and constantly looked lost when trying to roll anything with multiple variables. I always thought he just needed to...

How to Make D&D Accessible to the Non-Mathematically Inclined?

While I can see what you're saying and agree somewhat (your definitely right about not making roleplaying unfun for someone), I think that everyone has it in them to learn the rules if they give it a good try. And what I said has some of my personal bias that I find more complex rules to make...

"Campaign..meh, but I like my character"

If they've made up a good backstory, work that into the plotline. Or if they have some sort of goals work that in too. The player with a backstory that their father left for the great war and was killed in combat will be much more invested if the GM has them catch glimpses of an old, scarred...

How to Make D&D Accessible to the Non-Mathematically Inclined?

If they're having trouble with factoring in all of the modifiers and such, I don't think this is a good idea at all. I think dumbing down the rules won't give the player incentive to learn the rules, where if they have to actually follow the rules they'll be more apt to understand and learn them.

    Dragon Heritage and Dragonblood Feats

I think it means you just get the abilities listed, not in addition to the abilities that come with a Barbarian's Rage. So in your example the 4th level sorcerer who sacrificed a 2nd level spell would just get 10 hp.

    The Inquisition

The 7th Sea settin resembles 17th century Europe and the Inquisition in Castille (aka Spain) fits the bill for what you described. I like the d10 version of the game but I believe there is a d20 version also.

    Druid CR

Monster Manual II has a Medium sized dire toad in it! A Dire Porcupine would be really neat.

    Fantasy Grounds

For a PC and a GM would you suggest buying the "Full" or "Lite" license? Tanks!

    Fantasy Grounds

Ah, good tip in the voice chat suggestion. That was one of my major concerns, that action, story, etc. would suffer because of the slower response time due to typed responses.

    Fantasy Grounds

Hi all, the GM of my group is going to be moving to Sweden for an unknown period of time. We wanted to try to keep the game going and we're considering play by e-mail or possibly Fantasy Grounds. If you've used it, what are your opinions on Fantasy Grounds? Is it worth it or is there a better...

    Leader of animals druid PrC

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Just Awaken some and get their help. Although I am considering one level of Beastmaster to get +3 to my effective druid level for my animal companion. Is that worth it or a waste?

What counts as a "fear effect"?

The only problem is that the PHB definition of fear effect is: "Any spell or magical effect that causes the victim to become shaken, frightened..." blah, blah, blah "...or specific spell or item in question." That definition never includes effects from a skill check as a "fear effect", so...

PS: We usually just use the Complete books but I'm sure my GM would at least consider other sources if he could read and ponder over them.

    Leader of animals druid PrC

Hi, In a game that I'm playing in we're getting to the middle levels (7th-8th) and the theme of the campaign is shifting from our adventuring party doing missions for the Good king against the Evil king to our party having a greater hand in raising and controlling armies and such to defend and...
