    Resurrection Burial Tomb (Long)

I would hope the patent examiner knows enough about solid state electronics to flush this one, but, yeah, that's basically what these "wouldn't it be cool if..." patents do. On a number of occasions, I've seen people take a pass on developing a technology simply because the USPTO had given some...

[FR]Player wants to play a Bard/Ninja :), what do you think?

I think the player is reinventing the shadow dancer, not that there's anything wrong with it.

Scratch on my cell phone screen...

A very shallow scratch can be polished out, like on a CD, but if it's deeper the best thing is to fill it in with a clear index-matching polymer. Depending on the type of plastic, some glues work fairly well for scratch filling with some buffing. Oils and waxes can work fairly well too but...

    Diet?

I only eat foods made from lighter isotopes of the common elements, and I adhere to a high-helium diet. I feel great, and I'm often complimented for my healthy glow.

    The Baghdad Battery

You'd have to have at least a dozen or two of them in series to get any real tingle. The 1 volt or so potential one of those can generate doesn't produce much of a sensation even on the tongue.

    The Baghdad Battery

Yes In what sense? Probably a cell - we know that there were plating technologies, and they could have been electrically assisted Electroplating is about all it would be good for that I can think of 10 sp? Some kind of alchemy or metallurgy skill Since we already have electrical magic in D&D...

Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

"Guess you understand Payment for the vehicle will be made to you in Cheque or money order." He offered very directly to pay by money order, and I saw nothing subsequent that suggested a _personal_ check, as a money order is in fact a check that is legitmately and commonly referred to as such...

Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

If it bothers you, just don't sell it to the guy, but the AG's office doesn't need to hear about it every time some English-challenged Chinese guy wants to pay for something with a money order.

Questions about the Speed of Light

Galilean relativity was pretty well known by the mid-20th century.

Questions about the Speed of Light

Not exactly - velocity in Einsteinian relativity is essentially an interchange of space and time, so the speed of light is in some sense just the pivot point between being spacelike and being timelike for the direction of motion. Many things move at the speed of light and yet they're perfectly...

The final "How old are you?" thread

Non-sequiturs OTOH are conclusions that don't follow logically. "I ate an apple today, so a duck stole my shower" is a non-sequitur. "i ate an apple today. Then, a duck stole my shower" is just a statement of two random unrelated events, a non-non-sequitur.

    Interesting comment from a player

I'd have the npc pop off the cork, knock it back, and immediately grow 10 years younger.

So what do/did you study in college? Did you bother with college?

No, I mean an MS in EE. It's at most an extra semester or two, and depending on the school it really can take exactly the same amount of time as a second BS. The big variable is in how different colleges treat a second bachelors degree. Most of them will force you to do 30+ hours of new course...

So what do/did you study in college? Did you bother with college?

Oh, I did almost exactly that. Don't even consider getting a second BS. From physics, an MS takes almost exactly the same amount of time and could be worth an extra $10k a year as well as a wider range of opportunities. I don't think anyone in EE ever regrets the masters.

    Average Monthly Gas Bill

Was the fan on the furnace running? Oftentimes, a broken fan causes those sorts of symptoms. Since the hot air never gets distributed to rooms, it never gets to the thermostat, the furnace just keeps running and running, and the house just stays cold (except for the furnace closet, which is nice...

    Average Monthly Gas Bill

$100/mo. gas bill would be unusually high for an apartment even in a hard winter month, unless it's like 4 bdr 2000 sq ft or something like that. It shouldn't come even close to that averaged out over the whole year in a fairly mild climate like the DC area. In northern Indiana, I think my 2 BDR...
