    Scientists create self-replicating robot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_Neumann_machine "The term "von Neumann machine" is less specific and, confusingly, also refers to a completely unrelated computer architecture proposed by von Neumann (see above), so the use of this misnomer should be discouraged whenever accuracy is important."

    PDFs - Does size matter?

There's a second Save command in the File menu called Save As (or sometimes Page Save As on browsers) - if you ever want to change the name or destination directory when you save a file, use that. It works like that with nearly every program written since the early 1990s, so it's very useful.

    PDFs - Does size matter?

A 40 MB download takes exactly the same amount of time whether you do it through Save Link As or the browser window. It's a quick fix on the SERVER side, so it's way easier than either of those. All you do is just associate a non-PDF MIME type (e.g. application/x-unknown) with the PDF...

    PDFs - Does size matter?

If people think that Clicking on File|Save is a lot of effort, then saving a file as a zip and then having to click on it again, open it in a ZIP folder/window (depending on the OS), and then extract or copy it out of the ZIP into another folder is comparatively a lot of work. None of this is a...

    Scientists create self-replicating robot

Nah, a Von Neumann machine is a way of structuring an information processing system. Rarely the term is used for self-replicating machines because von Neumann also discussed them, but it's not widely used. There are a number of terms for self-replicating machines but since none of them work or...

    PDFs - Does size matter?

Ah, "it's a crate for multiple files" makes a lot more sense than "it defeats the normal function of the browser in a strange way that you could also have done by much easier means". With a single file, it doesn't save any mouse clicks though. 1 left click or 1 right click, either way, and in...

    Scientists create self-replicating robot

A "Turing machine" is an abstract notion how code is executed (designed to ensure mathematical computability of the machine state) and it's basically the underlying scheme used in almost all modern processors. Nothing to do with replication or communication specifically.

This is like saying that a bunch of forklifts is self-replicating if the forklifts can move each other around. Call me when the cubes figure out how to make more cubes.

    PDFs - Does size matter?

It's quite easy to right mouse and save, File|Save, or to set the server or browser up so that it won't open as PDF or gives a save option first. Unzipping a file often takes far more effort than any of those, and 9 times out of 10 I _want_ to view the file before I save it, which I can't do...

    PDFs - Does size matter?

I don't care about the size but I do wish people would stop wrapping them in zip archives. That 1% compression isn't worth the effort.

    Round 16 is OVER

For archers, low damage is always the key drawback to their fighting style, so that +1 dmg bonus from PBS is the best thing since sliced flumph. That's a 30% increase to short bow damage. It's one feat I never regretted for a second.

The US has dollar coins in circ too - they're rare, but I did get one in change just a few weeks ago. A big problem is that a lot of dumb bunnies out there think they're valuable for some reason and keep them whenever they turn up.

More guys play D&D than gals, Why?

I think women don't play because they're tired of listening to guys discussing why they don't play.
