    Beginning Bard Needs Help

Hm, well hopefully MM3 fixed the glaringly obvious problems with the earlier versions. Can they still fly? I think if I were a birdman, Perform Singing would be the way. The upside to singing is that you don't need an instrument. The downside is that you can't get the masterwork instrument...

    Beginning Bard Needs Help

Maybe I was just reading some old version of it, but I also thought it was a little funny that they can blend into humanoid populations 50% of the time. "Come to think of it, I always did wonder why Bob's head was 3 feet long."

Say, I just looked up kenku, and aren't they like giant bird people who are incapable of speech?

    Beginning Bard Needs Help

The Bard's Munchkin Fakebook contains the secrets to bardic success in 3.0, though it hasn't been revised for 3.5. It doesn't multiclass as well in 3.5, but the new spell failure rule, spell swap out rule, extra skill points, and new bardic music abilities have pumped up the power a lot.

I Got D&D 4.1E, You Got The Questions

I know what you mean - it was always embarrassing to dominate the action like that. With a well designed character class, you shouldn't have to hold back in order not to overshadow everyone else.

Yeah, that's pretty much what post-Modernism is all about, the 20th-century rehash of the Enlightenment's "Noble Savage" concept.

WARHAMMER FRPG - I have it!

They always were a bit sparse in the core book. WFRP tends to be less monster-oriented. The Old World Bestiary v1 is coming out in April though.

Bards - The Greatest of All Classes

There's no reason you can't do both, and in the two years that I played a bard, that's exactly how we did it, and it worked fine. For some fact that wasn't worth RPing about, like "Do I recall any songs that might tell me about where wolfsbane grows?", you can just say "oh, you remember an old...

Bards - The Greatest of All Classes

Let me explain obliquity then. If the bard player says "I want to roll bardic knowledge to find out what fire elves are" and gets a 30 result, and I give him the above statement, it is "oblique" because it does not directly answer his question. A non-oblique answer would be something like "fire...

No, that was Bede: "Duces fuisse perhibentur eorum primi duo fratres Hengist et Horsa; e quibus Horsa postea occisus in bello a Brettonibus, hactenus in orientalibus Cantiae partibus monumentum habet suo nomine insigne."

Bards - The Greatest of All Classes

So are you claiming you aren't a modern then, or just that you know better than I do? I've read the riddles of the Exeter Book the original, so I know what a riddle looks like, and that wasn't a riddle. I'll post some examples tonight if you want, since I have a copy in the OE section of my...

Bards - The Greatest of All Classes

I agree - that's just bad design. The useful way to handle it is to specify a couple oblique references that bardic music could get and control the information that way, like "You recall a puzzling fragment of a poem from an old parchment that mentions 'snuffing flaming elves like candles,'...
