    Terraforming Mars!

That in itself would be a stunning discovery. If it did have DNA - and I think the likelihood that a truly independently evolved form of life would have DNA is stunningly remote, despite the BS in sci-fi novels - the next step would be to sequence it and see how similar it is to terrestrial...

Trainz, or anyone else know how progress on CD 3 is going?

Rolling 20 on your Listen check, you hear the sound of keyboards busily clacking away.

    Playing cross-gender PCs

I think I've done it twice - one was a goofy DC Heroes thing but the other was pretty normal, as halfling alchemists go in Warhammer FRP.

When do baby goblins become evil?

Goblins become evil on their 8th birthdays. It's a big, festive occasion, when the little goblin receives his first black hat.

When Bob wants to play a female PC

It's not a "straw man" if that's what the actual position is. If someone says "I am overwhelmed by the yellowness of the sky," I'm not constructing a straw man if I construe that to be a statement that the sky is yellow. Just because someone can show that an argument is weak, that's not that...

    Terraforming Mars!

More than that, we don't want to go around seeding microbial life either. It would be kind of embarrasing to find "life on Mars" only to discover that it was E. coli that stuck to one of the Viking probes. Yeah, "veneriform" is either an adjective "venus-shaped" or the verb "to make like...

When Bob wants to play a female PC

I guess that means if you game in a language that doesn't mark pronouns for gender, you can play whatever you want? And you can't play warforged in English because they don't have gender? Lasher Dragon had a good point. The only thing that was perhaps excessive was the "LMAO" in the end, but...

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

Nanananananana... BATMAN! Monks don't actually get lighter though, unless 3.5 made some big flavor text changes that aren't in the SRD. Wire-fu is as much a modern invention as Batman, Superman, and the Flash. Pre-modern East Asian stories depict some characters with the ability to move fast and...

When Bob wants to play a female PC

I've never known it to be a problem. Even when the player plays the opposite-gender PC "wrong," it's not such a big deal. I did know one guy who flat out refused to allow it in his games, but he had a great dread of any hint of "gaiety." I won't speculate on why that was. :)

Be careful of what's on the menu.

Yeah, using "corn" exclusively to describe maize is a weird little quirk of North American English. Very few Americans are aware of that, obviously. :) I'll sometimes use them in medieval settings, but I'll attribute foreign origins. One thing people don't realize a lot is that vegetables were...

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

Yep - the monk is about as oriental as chop suey. A little name-changing is all it takes.

    Latin Translation, Please!

That's "God as machine" or several other things that would be difficult to interpret. "God to the machine" could be several things, depending on what you mean exactly. If it's like a gift, Deus machinae. If it's more like motion, Deus ad machinam. "To" is heavily overloaded in English, so...

[native english] Translations - Fantasy Language

It's an old D&D newgroup joke - somebody always asks how to pronounce "drow" so somebody else has to answer "bow" or "row" (or even "sow"), since they go either way. :) bau = sich beugen, Bug, oder Verbeugung; bo = Bogen rau = (heuzutage ungewohnt in Amerika) Streit oder Unruhe; ro = Reihe oder...

    do you like your thumb?

I see. So when Pepsi has people go out and conduct the "Pepsi Challenge," they aren't actually trying to sell Pepsi, they're just trying to find out people's attitudes? Just sort of an academic exercise? I would say "nice try," if it weren't pitifully weak. You are a spammer; that was spam. No...

    do you like your thumb?

Smells like a spammer to me. This one is at least smart enough to change its text around a little bit, but I could still find it on other boards in other variations, always with the classic single post count. Advertisers hire these subhumanoids to go around and subscribe to boards just so they...
