D+D in your language (new words, post #23)

I would guess that the verb comes from the noun in Swedish. In Old Norse, troll is a fairly common noun, but I can't recall encountering trolla as a verb. The Zoëga dictionary doesn't have it either (http://www.northvegr.org/zoega/h442.php), so it would probably be a late development, the notion...

Leading up to and then running G1-G3 for 3.5, advice needed!

With 5-6 PCs, smart, stealthy players could take G1 at 7th-8th level. "Fools rush in" players, yeah, probably about 9th-10th minimum.

I think he means "mount" as in ros, not berg. :) It's a somewhat uncommon English word (except in D&D) for "an animal that someone rides," usually a horse, but it could be a camel, elephant, dog, or similar. "Steed" is similar, though that's more usually restricted to horses. Based on a quick...

I don't get why that's some great revelation or has anything to do with my comment. Are there native English speakers out there who think "rogue" means the same thing as "thief"? Aside from the misspelling (which I really didn't care about), the idea is that "rogue" is really difficult to...

So you're saying you think "a dishonest or mischievous person" pretty much sums up the D&D Rogue class?

First PHB ever sold is up for sale on ebay

I almost never buy anything that somebody else bids on, since I've never seen anything go at auction for less than what I would have had to pay a dealer. Too many people get caught up in the competitive mentality and bid up just to "win" the auction. I made an exception when I was bidding on the...

First PHB ever sold is up for sale on ebay

Yeah, the consigner must be in a bit of a pickle, unless he was just digging through his closets: "Man, I gotta get rid of some stuff. Let's see... Babe Ruth's first bat... Nah... Apple's first MacIntosh... Nah... Paris Hilton's first camcorder... Nah... oh here we go!"

First PHB ever sold is up for sale on ebay

Many eBayists always use odd dollar fractions for their max bids on the theory that it's more likely to beat the most common even dollar bids without having to bid up too much more. $0.01 is kind of doofy, though obviously it "worked" (inasmuch as having to pay your max bid + $0.01 is working)...

Well, whatever crystal that guy in Virginia grows in his glaze, it's only very weakly fluorescent. Supposedly manganese strongly increases the optical emission of zinc silicate phosphors (if you wanted to try to get that), but probably the other stuff in the glaze is pretty effective at killing...

A really **different** kind of vampire

Blood Magnet (Su) - Whenever a physical wound is inflicted on a living target with a piercing or slashing weapon within 10 ft. of the creature, blood flows from the wound, doing an additional 1 point of damage to the target on each subsequent round, until the wound is healed (as with a wounding...

Ghostorb.com – What do people think of this for a far-flung gaming group?

We did it mainly with Yahoo Messenger and Netmeeting for a couple years. I think at one point we had it spread over 7 time zones, which made scheduling tricky. I have to say the main reason I never developed one of those myself (I have a fairly primitive tool for it that we used for the last...

I've got about every kind of light short of a synchrotron. I'll take that one I got at J's wedding and see what it does. My guess is that it won't phosphoresce, but I'll bet a blacklight will get something out of it. Looks good :)

Hmm... how does one destroy an artifact that can kill royalty and summon bebiliths?

It must be used to stab the King of the Bebiliths.
