    Plotlines - eh?

I don't think it is a good idea. You have made a good start on one set of issues, got players' interest up in the questions 'where are we?', 'are we lost at random or placed where our enemies want us?', 'how do we get home?', 'can we help our academy in its current struggle?'. Make use of that...

Can't game at your own house?

He's being generous about it. You don't know what he really feels. Come on: this guy is an inconsiderate arrogant jerk who is getting a fat head from being promoted at work, is getting too big for his britches, and is trying to take over your apartment--but when it comes to your girlfriend...

Frazer, not Frazier. Sorry, but it makes a difference when you are trying to find it in an index.

Can't game at your own house?

His point of view is probably that you and your girlfriend are between you dominating the apartment, and that you need to learn some consideration. That is in no way fair. You are getting accommodation and utilities and a share of the common areas for two people. You owe him 1/6 of the rent and...

    The feeling is doubtless reciprocated.

Can't game at your own house?

I assume that the OP is paying two-thirds of the rent and utilities. Remember that he has moved his girlfriend in 'temporarily', and it sounds as though she has been there for at least two months. Moreover, it seems as though the OP is planning for her to be there for months to come. There are...

Can't game at your own house?

Do they both have the right to move their girlfriends in? The OP is already using two-thirds of the apartment.

Can't game at your own house?

Hear! Hear! Relatiating would be a really good way to make your apartment unliveable for both of you. He's coping with it badly if he is. But that isn't really the point. This poor fellow has had a third resident whose presence he never bargained on introduced to his apartment. His roommate...

Can't game at your own house?

Back when I was a campus habitué, my various universities used to let staff members and campus clubs book tutorial rooms for use outside class hours. But I guess these days security concerns have put a stop to that. Go and see whatever section in the administration is responsible for locking...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

I'm trying to think of a method that will occasionally shove players out of their ruts, giving them a reason to play a character other than their stock whatever. What I had in mind was this. You pick two top attributes, two middling attributes, and two bottom attributes. Then you roll 5d6 keep...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

That's the way we used to play it back when I started off (with AD&D in 1980). It had this advantage: it tended to keep players from getting into ruts. It had this disadvantage: sometimes a party ended up with either no magic-user or no cleric.

The Penguin Atlas of World History: volume one ISBN 0-14-051054-0 The Penguin Atlas of World History: volume two ISBN 0-14-051061-3 This pair of books does a fantastic job of condensing political history to a manageable size. You would never read through it. But it is the most useful...

    better gaming through chemistry

I wrote a couple of essays on the subject for the newsletter of the RPG association at the university I was at at the time back in 1987. That's Entertainment and Leads and Excuses. I think some of them are floating around the 'Net somewhere.

Does your group have a website/messageboard?

I have a full on website for each of my campaign settings (the fantasy one and the SF one), plus sites for the last events I ran at cons. There is a Yahoo! group for each of the settings, and one for a current campaign.

GM's: what was your first module?

First thing I ran was a dungeon/adventure I designed myself. The backsotroy was that an evil party had discovered that the crown jewels of a fallen dwarvish clan were in a certain dungeon. But the monster guarding them was too tough for them. So they established a village on top of the dungeon...

How long have you been a DM?

My first outing as a DM ws in 1981. Then, I was lousy. Now I'm pretty good. But not as good as I was from about 1986 to 1990. Then I had less experience, but I got more practice.

Do recreational drugs feature in your campaign?

Yes. The characters in my setting use cannabis, opium, and coca recreationally on a fairly wide scale, in addition to caffeine and alcohol. They're cheap and legal, and (except for alcohol) don't do a lot of harm unless you have to work for a living. Though I've noticed that player characters...

    Beyond High Fantasy

Look out for the movie Cast a Deadly Spell, in which Film Noir very appropriately meets The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.
