    D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger

I completely agree there Blue. When I make a ranger to play in D&D he is going to be the Barbarian character class, but reskinned as a ranger. The standard barbarian gives me everything that I actually want in a ranger class, which is a bit weird but hey, I can live with that :) (although I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) Best disposal of body or item spell!

Much lower level than disintegrate though - 4th vs 6th, so much more accessible. What's a few thousand gold for getting rid of the evil artifact? :)

D&D 5E (2014) What benefit to Delayed Blast Fireball?

Thank you. I've had a PHB for a while now, but only just getting the chance to have a read of it, and I'm still missing some of the obvious things like that.

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Under 5th level. 1st-4th is called out in the book as the 'apprentice' levels or some such. These are also the levels which Karinsdad is talking about.

D&D 5E (2014) What benefit to Delayed Blast Fireball?

Well, I completely missed the line that talks about that. I would have expected that this would have been a bigger part of the spell description. So, in terms of damage it can get bigger. Although I'm not sure of the utility - given that the wizard could concentrate for 5 rounds and add 5d6...

D&D 5E (2014) What benefit to Delayed Blast Fireball?

I'm struggling to see what the benefit of delayed blast fireball is now. It does the same damage as a standard fireball put into a 7th level slot (12d6), requires concentration so you can't use it to build up a 'time on target' assault... what is the point of it as a 7th level spell?

D&D 5E (2014) Best disposal of body or item spell!

I agree, it would probably make a more interesting plot element for an adventure rather than a tactic which adventurers might want to use regularly (even if there was such a need, which I think unlikely!)

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Well, this is my point exactly. If someone wants to make an argument about wizards then it doesn't make sense going to evokers who are specialists. Also, this is a thread about low level casters. I don't think anyone has worried about the ability of high level wizards to feel that they are...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger

I have always liked the ranger class. However, the 5e ranger was the first class that I read in the book which was 'meh'. Every other class, I want to play a PC with each of the classes and subclasses - they are all so excellent and flavourful! The ranger was just 'meh' though. Favoured enemy...

D&D 5E (2014) Best disposal of body or item spell!

I used to think that disintegrate was one of the best spells for disposing of a body or object, but reading the spell list last night I realised that there is an even better one - lower level too! I speak of none other than leomunds secret chest. A spell which has always seemed to be of...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Do you think your DM would be up for trying out either: 1. Casters add casting stat to damage with cantrips 2. Change damage die so that 1d8 becomes 1d6+1, 1d10 becomes 1d8+1? Same average, less chance of really rubbish damage? 3. Change damage die so that 1d8 becomes 2d4; minor damage bump but...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

The overall picture that I'm getting from this thread is this: 1. The overall premise "low level wizards really do suck in 5e" doesn't stand up. 2. If the premise had been that "low level wizards can suck in 5e combat" then there is certainly some evidence for that 3. But combat isn't normally...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

I disagree - evoker is (by definition!) the specialist. He should be doing more than the average wizard. It is the average wizard that you should use in such calculations. That is, if you think the calculations add any value to the discussion. Over time I've increasingly come round to the view...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

I wonder why there isn't a bonus to damage? It seems natural that when people use Dex to hit they had dex to damage, use str to hit they use str to damage - so why not add int (or wis or cha) to damage with spells? (I've not read the PHB in detail or followed any WotC articles which may have...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Just finished reading the whole thread. Firstly - I'm itching to play a 5e wizard now! Regarding KD's original point - granted that the big spells haven't brought the boom he was expecting, but it appears that is partly because of an extended run of bad luck with the dice, right? Even the...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Perhaps though it is that Sleep changes from being an opening move to being a finishing move though - so it doesn't 'stink', but it is used at different points in a fight. still good.

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

Well hoo-rah for something sensible. I've always hated the idea that you could have a second level cleric spell that completely shut down casters (apart from the use of hypnotic pattern pre-3e, and metamagic-ed silent spells in 3e). The spell makes sense to help people move quietly. I don't...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

I'm only about halfway through the thread but I had to respond to this one on the way. I'm afraid I think this was a dick move by the DM, no two ways about it.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (trailer)

I'd so like to do that "Tolkien edit", removing all additional scenes (and trimming some of the overlong ones)
